But ultimately it has always come down to my attitude, my willingness, and my openness to share and then of course, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
This is the hard part for most people in therapy. If not open, nothing changes and then it really is a waste of time. They want the pill, not the cure.
Do you feel that people are more afraid of commitment these days? It is funny. because people "commit" to strong opinions on social media and the like, then flipflop in the next moment. I assume they do this in their lives too, which means that if they don't stick with something for long enough, they are never going to reap the benefits of what they started to sow.
I would agree 100% that commitment is more rare these days. I always thought it was due to so many more options at our fingertips that our range of choices is constantly changing. I never considered that maybe we have shorter attention spans and tend to move on to new things more quickly. I can tell you after a pair of divorces under my belt, being consistent with the same partner past the 5-year mark has been quite the hurdle for me. Finding ways to keep it new and fresh is imperative to keep my attention. Fingers crossed I figure it out this time around.
