Yes, it was always there, but now it is present in almost every conversation, about every topic. The exploitation is more open, yet people are less capable to see or deal with it. Perhaps in Vene people are coming together out of necessity -" the enemy of my enemy" kind of thing, but will it stay that way? If there was sudden good conditions for people, how long until the polarization sets in again as people grapple to fill the control gap for power?

The necessity you speak of here is that the crisis affected everyone, even the people who left the country. The crisis is still ongoing and the regime still in place for now, but they no longer control any narrative and people no longer clash over it or indeed anything else. It's been beautiful to behold and experience.
I guess our best shot is to identify the disagreeable things that are happening all over, while focusing mostly on what we want, namely a more open, kinder society. As long as we do our part, we're contributing to a better world regardless of what those around us choose to do.
