We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.

We Talk Friday Ep. 32: You'd Stick it Where?
Since my wife is going to the fancy event tomorrow, I am not going to be around much either. However, thinking about that fanciness, I was wondering what I would do if I had "one million dollars" to spend in a weekend. It would be easy to say "buy a house, a super fancy car, or give it to charity" but that is boring. Yet, I think I might be too practical out of current life necessity, so my thoughts are stuck in a loop of "invest it" in some way.
Give me some ideas!
So for tonight's WTF, let's explore what kinds of things you would do to spend around a million dollars in a weekend in your local area. What is available locally for you to spend that kind of money? And have fun with it, don't be lame.
Of course, as sad as it is, I don't actually have a million dollars to spend in a weekend, nor will likely have to spend in the rest of my lifetime, but you know as they say, it is the thought that counts. (I think I am using that out of context) - but who cares.
You know, a "million dollars" used to be the number people would cite for their retirement, but these days, it doesn't go that far, does it? But still, it is a lot to spend in a weekend, so let's see where you'd stick it.
Hookers and blow...

I would buy an ultra lux caravan and then go all out on an adventure city by city, country by country 😎
Oh that sounds pretty awesome! One of those live-in ones that are like a luxury house - then just drive round Europe.
I guess the first thing I would have to do is buy an MP3 file of the Barenaked Ladies song. Then, with the remaining $999,999.01, I would shop for a new camper van, stereo system for that van, cabinetry and appliances to customize it, go crazy at the local game store and sporting goods store, and then spend whatever was left on gold or silver at a coin shop.
Edit: I hope the link works internationally!
Lol.
Perhaps there is an NFT version and it can be yours forever.
An off-grid home would be a decent way to spend it. A few rifles and ammo too.
I may or may not already have suitable firearms, but if I had a million dollars, there are definitely a few upgrades I would consider. A nice precision rifle and a pallet of match grade ammunition would be sweet. A proper over/under skeet and trap shotgun would also be nice. And as an American, it would be my duty to buy a nice AR10-pattern .308 rifle and kit it out properly.
Well, the real answer for locally to spend would be real estate or gold at a local gold dealer or deposit into a bank at around 4% right now. If it was not only locally the real answer would be to put 50% into S&P500 ETF, 30% into Nasdaq ETF, 10% into BTC, 5% into ETH and 5% into another 5 Altcoins.
Or the more fun option, if I couldn't invest for real, I would fly to Cyprus blow 300K+ Euros on the property there and have fun for a week spending whatever else is left on every kind of experience I could have :)
Have you been to Cyprus before? I haven't travelled anywhere around that area of the world at all, but I have head good things!
Same here, I have not been there, but heard good things :) And if you buy a place 300k or more you get legal residence, which is a good thing to have as a back up in case the situation in US were to become untannable sometime in the future...
Oh. I didn't know about the residence thing. Not a bad deal. There are houses in Italian villages they are almost giving away. Might be an option too :)
We have a couple casinos in our immediate vicinity, so I am thinking that would be the best bet. You are going to blow it all anyway, so that way you might have a chance to actually make some back. Even if you are wrong on 80% of your bets... Casinos usually have decent food and drinks as well. Maybe make it a party and bankroll a group of friends. Finally walk into that high roller area for once.
I would be cleaned out in 20 minutes - I am terrible with gambling. Not that I have a gambling addiction, I mean - I am just terrible at it! Have you ever won anything significant?
There are no proper casinos in Finland, though Finns are happy to gamble playing pokie machines.
Yeah, when we went to Vegas for my brother in laws bachelor party we took over a craps table and I won a couple hundred bucks off less than $100. I've never won anything significant. I don't think anyone is really good at gambling.
Gambling is designed to make money for the house ;)
Gotta be the house
I remember a story of an Australian billionaire in Vegas who done 23 million in 45 minutes, or something like that. When they interviewed the manager they asked if he was worried abd he said. "No, he is a good customer".
Sounds about right!
Give me a million dollars on Friday and by Sunday I’ll have a story that starts with in my defence… and ends with technically, no laws were broken, and i'd get away with whatever it was cos well, i have a million dollars.
"Here, hold me beer...."
I would just buy a private jet and travel round the world.
I'll see how many countries I'll be able to cover before the weekend elapsed.
I'll definitely go to a lot of places for sure.
Rent a private jet perhaps! But somewhere a bit warmer and sunnier than here sounds good.
Yeah, maybe rent cos a million dollars doesn't go that far these days.
But I'm sure I'll have a blast by the time the weekend is over.
A weekend to remember for sure.
Honestly, with that kind of money in 48 hours, I’d probably just stare at it for 6 hours straight, realise life is meaningless, then go buy a sandwich that costs more than my rent.
Lol!
Mega sandwich I guess 😄
What are you gonna do with it.
Lol. I was reading somewhere about a dessert (maybe in Dubai) that was over 1000 dollars. What is wrong with people.
I guess they have multiple millions of dolllars to spend for multiple weekends
I'd bet $1 million on Polymarket.

See, that is not fun!
Okay. I'd get drunk, dress up as Santa Claus, and hand out a thousand dollars to everyone I met by the Christmas tree. It would be something memorable and something to watch on the morning news.
Well, that would be more fun for sure. You'd have a legend legacy.
With a million you could probably make many Hive business cards and give them to people. tens of thousands of people would start buying HP and your 1 million would turn into 5-10 million soon.
Maybe...I would also try to make Hive into a national currency of Lithuania. But I think that this would cost more than 1 million...
Hmm interesting thought exercise.. It's kinda hard if we were to exclude all the "boring" stuff.. Hmm, maybe a presidential suite at one of the top hotels? (Then again, not sure what I am going to do in a such a big room..) Or a lavish spa treatment (scrub, massage, you name it)? Gamble in the name of fun at a casino (it's been ages since I visited a casino lol), that should be an "easy" way to exhaust the money? Hehe.
