Even if we behave according to our wanted path, it doesn't mean we are able to do all the things necessary, at the level necessary, in order to achieve it.
This is a great point. This happens frequently in careers. You get promoted to the position you wanted but it turns out you don't have the necessary skills to excel in the new role. The "what got you here won't get you there" kind of thing. I've seen it happen with others, and it happened to me at least once.
For sure. I have worked with succession planning in some companies and this is a problem. They shouldn't promote people because they are great at the job they currently do, if they don't have the potential to excel at the next position. This is why so many managers are crap.
So true. I'm sure you heard the saying before... "people get promoted to their level of incompetence" and spend most of their careers there. Thus the crap managers.
