Reflection Part One: Pros and Cons of Facebook Professional Mode

Good afternoon, reflection friends.

My country, Indonesia, is the fourth-largest social media user in the world after China, India, and the United States, with 167 million users.

In my opinion, the current increase in Facebook users in Indonesia is due to the increasing number of mothers who are now very active on Facebook. This is especially true after the introduction of Facebook Professional Mode, which is expected to generate income. They share content and display it on social media platforms, especially on Facebook.

I categorize the content they upload into four types:

  1. Educational Content
  2. Comedy Content
  3. Funny Content
  4. Pornographic Content

Now, let's reflect on the pros and cons of Facebook Professional Mode that I'm referring to.

1. Pros of Facebook Professional Mode

Some people who agree with the presence of Facebook Professional Mode are those who believe and hope that the content they upload in Facebook Professional Mode will generate income. Despite the reality, this is largely futile, and only a few lucky people earn money from their content.

Furthermore, the presence of Facebook's Professional mode has undeniably encouraged users to be more creative in creating content on social media. However, of the four types of content I mentioned above, pornography dominates the list. Educational content, on the other hand, has very little interest.

2. Cons of Facebook's Professional Mode

In my neighborhood, most professional Facebook users are mothers and fathers, whose age is considered inappropriate for narcissism and flaunting their daily activities. This doesn't mean I'm denying their creativity, but their inability to use social media wisely often creates problems in society.

One example is the tendency to not read and verify news sources; as long as the content goes viral, it's easily shared on their Facebook feeds. This is certainly a serious concern, given the amount of chaos in society caused by hoax news.

Is there a good solution?

I don't know, but I'm still conducting research with the goal of encouraging social media users to be wiser in creating content and sharing news.

What about your country? Is it the same?
