The good 'ol days
In 2013 a friend introduced my to #bitcoin. I felt like Charlie entering Willy Wonka's (decentralized) chocolate factory. Who remembers the good 'ol days? Ahh, back then it was all BTC and a handful of the OG's. Learning material was scarce so we cherished the monthly meet-ups, huddled together in small groups sharing our stories, predications and pearls of wisdom. Back then, if you knew about bitcoin, wow... you knew! Back then, I wish I was a little less skeptical and a little more brave. Back then, there was no FOMO or FUD, no Web3. Back then, it was a lot harder to advocate! So we learned from each other.
Then came the conferences, in-person workshops and before I knew it, 5 years had gone by!
5 Years
5 years - 5 years is what it took for me to be the change I wanted to see, so I started teaching and sharing my learnings and rejoiced every time someone could explain it to me like I was 5 years old! :)
So now that I find myself learning about Web3 and #SocialFi through fresh lenses, I wanted to share my top 5 learnings with the hopes that this jogs your memory banks and takes you back to a time before...
The lessons
So here are 5 things I wish someone had told me about Web3:
- Learn: Learn, learn and continue learning. And when you think you know enough, learn some more!
- Share: Someone told me once that you learn more when you teach - no wiser words have been spoken!
- Be patient: Everything takes time. So be kind to yourself, be fully present and enjoy the journey.
- Stay connected: Community, it's all about community. Find communities that resonate with you, learn and contribute.
- Stay humble: When you achieve your desired level of success, acknowledge this, be thankful and give! It's one of the greatest metrics of success.
So, these words are simple and grounding. Web3 has changed the direction of my life and I am dedicated to sharing words of wealth, inspiring others to share theirs and hopefully extend the reach of our communities stretching out far and wide connecting us all across our beautiful earth!
