SOIL PAINTING ART EXHIBIT | LOCAL ARTISTS IN BUKIDNON

in Art Talklast month

I got invited to this exhibition by the organizer herself when we were at a meeting for a collaboration between local artists and young artists in Bukidnon.

I couldn't hide my happiness because I love indigenous culture, especially in Bukidnon and their authentic Soil paintings.

The program had yet to start when I arrived, so since I didn't know anyone except for the organizer herself who was busy preparing, I just roamed around to take pictures with these accessories that caught my attention.

The item that caught my eye was the soil artists' paintings printed on the card with information at the back, I was planning to buy one to my liking, but I had to wait for Ma'am Sol the head of Bukidnon Studies Center from Bukidnon State University, who was also picking what she liked. Ma'am Sol was very cheerful while picking hers, I could feel her happiness and excitement about all the displayed products, I know how she feels since I am the same sometimes 😆

While deciding which card I should buy, the star of the day; Sir Soliman was very kind to explain one of the cards, which made my decision easy.

SOIL PAINTINGS

I have tried soil painting in the past when they were offering their workshop, it didn't turn out the way I expected it to be or executed neatly like this, so I have full admiration with the artists and the medium used since it's not easy to present it compared to what I'm familiar with.

This is one of my favorite paintings in the exhibit. I guess I'm drawn to the grey background. I fully admire how soil can produce such rich color and be painted so smoothly without any trace of soil texture. Other than the medium used, I'm also curious about the concept of this painting. Although I regret not asking the artist the meaning behind this, maybe next time I'll ask.

This mandala-style painting is another favorite of mine. I also create mandala art in my own work, so I am naturally drawn to this style. I admire this piece because it's executed beautifully using soil painting.

LOCAL FOOD

so many authentic foods served in the exhibit too ~

Tribal Performance

it was very exciting to see the artists perform their traditional music and dances too, this is something you don't see everyday, well to me at least, since performances like these are somewhat rare

Tribal Clothes

I also explored other places that serves as an office, showcasing various costumes of datus from different tribes along with their instruments. of course I asked permission if I could enter and take a picture and I was granted to do so, mehehe...

The exhibit was in connection with the Kaamulan Festival held in Malaybalay City. It was an honor to be invited by the organizer of the local artists in Bukidnon to their opening art exhibit.
