Picture a Day - Evening Prayer

in Picture A Daylast year (edited)

Yesterday I came across a touchy scene of evening prayer. I was walking and listening to music in my headphones, when suddenly, passing by The Big Mosque of St.petersburg, I heard singing. I stopped and listened to it - I thought 1stly it was the muezzin calling for prayer, but nope! A small 8-year-old boy, standing next to six men, was singing in full voice. He was spinning around and dissolving himself in his singing and ... it was very touching!

In fact, the picture is a little sad if you think about it - a huge multi-million city, and only 8 people came to the Great Mosque to raise their prayers to the sky. No, of course I understand, a dislocated century, time has gone crazy, and people too. To pray in any place where you are, it is not necessary to go to church for this, but still, still ...

The world is a funny place. The Muslim population is quite large, and observant. When there are services, there is actually a traffic jam around the mosque.

That is a sad picture, and yet so heartening. These men, devoted, practice their faith no matter the circumstances.

That's a great shot. Captures a moment in time and tells a story.

hehe. yes, true. but exceptions happen.

I once witnessed an interesting street scene - the street traffic (pedestrians) looked very unusual, there were many eastern faces, and some were even running! it was a friday afternoon, in the area of the Market on Sennaya Square. later I learned that on that day Muslims celebrated Big Friday - I forgot what it was called exactly - basically, a monthly big prayer that they are not allowed to miss.

probably it was "just Friday" but for muslims Friday is a "mini-celebration day" & it even has a pray with it's name "Friday" that's the 2nd of 5 of that day & can only be made in a relatively large group & that it's better than praying alone- hence they were running not to miss the group "not because they aren't allowed to miss it but to the previously mentioned believes", so probably you will see the same scene each Friday afternoon in places with a relatively large muslim population

You (again) found words better than me! "tells a story" and sad - thats exactly what I feel about it, and why I liked this, pretty trivial from many points of view, image. 😃

А почему они не внутри мечети или хотя бы не во дворе? Как-то странно.

Если бы я знал! удивительно и то что так мало. может это какая-то семья, родственники, еретики, которые не захотели смешиваться с остальной массой правоверных? на правах гипотезы.

Sending you Ecency curation votes.😉

Amazing shot

Thank you! nothing superb I think, in terms of art, but a pleasurable moment / encounter captured. Sending Hive !PIZZA your way.

Thank You so much. Sometimes to transmit that emotion of enjoyment in a picture is more artistic than generating technically achieved images.

generating images? nah! 😄

Oh I'm sorry.I think I made a mistake.I was referring to taking a picture with all the technique.Sometimes it is better more natural, casual, without so much planning

beautiful architecture- it's much like mosques of Uzbekistan & Iran, great photo that combined architecture with nature & with people. maybe the mosque was under maintenance at that time & that's why they are praying outside, and why they are few probably because as you said everyone can pray inside the apartment/house, also because only 2.23% of st.petersburg population are muslims so probably if this was in Moscow there would be much more due to the much bigger muslim population made of both russian citizens & citizens of ex-soviet union, & of course if this was within Russia's muslim majority regions there would be even much more. have a good day!
