Hello there hive fam. I was thinking about what I would do if I were trying to deal with having to pay/deal with a large electricity bill every month. Well, even if I didn't have a large bill.. I wouldn't want to rely on grid power at all. In philippines, where I want to live in the future.. storms are common. (they call them cyclones I think) and mostly u have to deal with lots of high winds and wet conditions.
so, first is I was thinking how much power would a family of 10 need. well, probably ten times what I would need for myself. duh. :P so, if i want about 2-4 100 watt panels to supply the appliances I use.. just times that by ten.. 20-40 panels.
First thing is I picture in my head.. a small field of land with 2-4 rows of panels setup in a nice rectangle. However, this setup might get easily damaged by this or that, blown around during a storm.
So, I was trying to think of how to best protect the panels from the wind. I thought.. what if they lie flat on the ground. Then the wind will just blow over them, right? well, yea.. but what about flooding? :(
so, my solution I landed on was the shape that is aerodynamic as well as structurally very strong.. a dome.
It is pretty hot in phils, so I also thought of burying the house, at least partially, so to get the cooler temps of down in the earth a bit. and when it does flood and some extra height is needed? well, how about hydraulics to lift the whole house up? ever seen Riddick where they raise the prison top? like that..
plus, how cool would it look to have a geodesic dome house with solar panels as the outside part? they got those flexible panels now or I bet there are even panels of different shapes maybe. or how about solar paint or other materials?
