Mr. Yin working together with his staff to arrange the can food for buyers to come. He doesn't mind to kneel down and do all the ground work
Meet Mr. Yin, the Store Manager of Star Grocers, located in Paramount, who found out that the Food Bank’s supporting senior heritage home and children’s homes were unable to purchase essential food for the next 2 week movement restriction (a.k.a soft lockdown) stepped in to offer help to us and planned a time right and bright early in the morning for us to purchase whatever is needed.
We made an arrangement and as early as we could, we went straight to his store to purchase all the necessary items for the centers that would help them to last for 2 weeks.
When he knew most seniors and children’s staple food is bread and no helper could source any, he has purposefully reserved the freshly arrived large loaves of bread aside so that they will not be all taken off by panic buyers, including frozen nuggets.
Although the Prime Minister of Malaysia already mentioned that food will still come in as supermarkets are still opened, most fresh vegetables are usually gone by panic buyers; but not this store manager.
Knowing the amount that is needed by the Food Bank, he reserved whatever that is still fresh aside for us to retrieve it before the panic crowd arrives.
Including reserving a special counter to entertain us because of the large amount of purchases.
Mission accomplished!
In the end, we and our LCS director, also one of the pastors of Glad Tidings Petaling Jaya, Rev Gwen Choo and her daughter were able to obtain these essential foods with another load of our car to first deliver to the elderly home.
Thanks to the generous donors who had donated enough cash this month for us to purchase such essential goods for the next 2 weeks; and also for Mr. Yin for reserving the food for the needy.
Such good Samaritan is truly hard to come by in this day and age, especially happening in such circumstances.
We are indeed truly grateful to every single person who has helped in any means.
In order to reduce the number of people coming to the food bank, children centers each come individually at different time to collect the 2 weeks ration for their homes.
In closing through this experience, this came to my mind,
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
Proverbs 19:17 (NIV)
We pray that for those who have extended a hand to the needy, much more shall return back to you.
