Hello everyone, my friends at Amazing Nature. A year ago I told you about Juliet my Morrocoy sabanero or red-footed tortoise. (Chelonoidis carbonaria.)
Juliet arrived in mid April 2019, she is about 2 and a half years old, today I would like to give you an update on that post, so you can see how she has grown, although she still looks small to me.

Juliet llegó a mediados de abril del 2019, tiene aproximadamente 2 años y medio, hoy quisiera hacerles una actualización de esa publicación, para que vean como ha crecido, aunque me sigue pareciendo pequeña.

When I made the previous post I had my doubts regarding the sex, today I can confirm that it is indeed a SHE.
Cuando hice el post anterior tenía mis dudas con respecto al sexo, hoy les puedo confirmar que efectivamente es una ELLA.

The plastron of the male turtles is more concave, they are so because it facilitates the coupling with the female at the time of mounting, while in them, their plastron is flatter. This is the way Juliet has it.
Regarding her food, she likes cayenne pepper and eats the perrarina to the puppies, she also eats lettuce, cucumber and especially loves tomato.
El plastrón de las tortugas macho es más cóncavo, son así porque facilita el acople con la hembra al momento de montarla, mientras que en ellas, su plastrón es más plano. Así lo tiene Juliet.
Lo referente a su alimentación sigue casi igual, le gustan mucho las cayenas y le come la perrarina a los perritos, también come lechuga, pepino y sobre manera le encanta el tomate.

He is still restless. In the mornings she goes to the kitchen and there she has her bowl with water, sometimes she is submerged in it for a long time. She also likes burrows. Once, when she was younger, I couldn't find her in the apartment, and she turned out to be tucked in a hole underneath and inside the sofa. She got another hiding place, and it is in the place of the junk, it is embedded in an old vase that is there and falls asleep.
Esta especie requiere en su alimentación alimentos ricos en calcio, por ello trato de darle hojas de dientes de león, bledo, perejil, pero, no le gustan mucho.
Sigue siendo de carácter inquieto. En las mañanas se va a la cocina y allí tiene su recipiente con agua, a veces dura largo rato sumergida en él. También le gustan las madrigueras. Una vez estando más pequeña no la conseguía en el departamento, y resultó estar metida en un agujero por debajo y dentro del sofá. Consiguió otro escondite, y es en el sitio de los trastos, se incrusta en un florero viejo que está allí y se duerme.

Aunque lo que más disfruta es tomar sol. Toma sol todas las tardes, aunque sea por un mínimo rayito que entre al apartamento. Toma sol a veces sola, otras acompañada. 😊

Among the curiosities that I have discovered while living with a red-footed tortoise, is that they are very active during the day, they get stressed if they are handled a lot. Special care must be taken when handling them, also, you have to wash your hands well because the salmonella bacteria lives in the intestinal tract of reptiles, so if the children take it, it is advisable to wash their hands afterwards.
I don't know if he hears me, but he does feel me. When I go downstairs every morning she comes out to meet me, and we sunbathe together for a while. She also tries to peck my toe, but I think she gets attention because of how chubby it is. 😅
With the puppies she gets along well, they keep each other company quietly.
I have taken it down to the garden of the building, however I don't like it very much because I feel it can get lost, although it doesn't look like it, it is quite fast.
And in my house what I do is that I put her in the nursery so she doesn't lose contact with the soil. So far this update, Juliet is still an unexpected pet but an excellent companion.
Entre las curiosidades que he descubierto al convivir con una tortuga de patas rojas, es que son muy activas durante el día, se estresan si se manipulan mucho. Hay que tener especial cuidado al manipularlas, también, hay que lavarse bien las manos ya que la bacteria de la salmonella vive en el tracto intestinal de los reptiles, así que luego si los niños la toman conviene que se laven sus manitas luego.
No se si me escucha, pero sí me siente. Cuando bajo todas las mañanas sale a mi encuentro, y tomamos sol juntas un rato. También trata de picotearme el dedo pulgar del pie, pero creo que le llama la atención por lo gordito. 😅
Con los perritos se lleva bien, se acompañan silenciosamente.
La he bajado al jardín del edificio, sin embargo no me gusta mucho porque siento que se puede perder, aunque no parezca, es bastante rápida.
Y en mi casa lo que hago es que la pongo en los materos para que no pierda por completo el contacto con la tierra. Y hasta aquí la actualización, Juliet sigue siendo una mascota inesperada pero una excelente compañera.
