On this occasion I would like to share about a blood-sucking animal that is still related to earthworms. He is often called Pacet or Pacat in my area.
This blood-sucking land animal has the scientific name Haemadipsa with the characteristics of having a slender body and shrinking forward. He has a yellowish color and there is also a blackish color. It can reach 50 mm in length and can shrink its body to as small as a thread. This animal is unique in the shape of its organs. It has 5 pairs of eyes and a suction device. There is an attachment device at the back end of its body.
This animal is almost the same as leeches, the same in terms of animals sucking blood from larger animals such as mammals and even including humans. Another similarity between Pacet and Leech is that both animals have male and female reproductive systems. The difference between the two is the habitat. Pacet is usually found in wet grass and usually attached to tree trunks, leaves and rocks, while leeches are more commonly found in water.
How to suck blood this animal has its own uniqueness that is without being realized by its prey. This is because when sucking blood this animal secretes a special substance in its suction that can prevent blood from freezing. If it is full, its body will fatten and immediately fall by itself.
But even though this animal sucks blood. Its bite is not as dangerous as other blood-sucking animals such as mosquitoes. There are several effective ways to overcome pacet bites, including using salt water, using eucalyptus oil, using anti-mosquito lotion.
Behind these negatives there are positives and benefits from the Pacet bite. The positive things are that it can cure blood clots, eliminate toxins, reduce dirty blood, smooth blood circulation, prevent dry blood, treat inflammatory pain, make the body lighter and many more. So we don't need to worry about the bite.
