Since I was little I have always been fascinated by taking care of plants or seeing how they grow and form beautiful flowers of different colors, I also like to see all the varieties in which they are presented, whether with long leaves, short leaves, or with mixed figures. Plants always have enormous beauty to offer.

And I repeat, I love to have plants and take care of them, but because of my work and the unfavorable climate where I live, it is impossible to have a city of them, since the busy life I lead and because the sun is so strong, all the plants I have been able to have do not last long and wither.

So instead of continuing to have plants that are very likely to die, I decided that the best thing to do is to have cactus, which do not need much water and can withstand the hot and hot climate where I live. Of course, getting cactus is quite a challenge because as it is a very coveted or valued plant it is very expensive to buy it in a nursery so it is better to cut some seedlings that I find in the street or ask someone who already has many. Between my wife and I, we have been able to get about 7 species of cacti, some very prickly and others like the succulents that are not prickly at all.

But even though they are plants that do not require much water and can be exposed openly to the sun, I still have to fight every day against the little birds that eat the cactus and also the scolopendras or hundred feet, which so far are the only animals or insects that I have seen eat a cactus so fast and so often. That's why every day I try to clean them and take care of them. If you wonder why they are red or red wine-colored, well it is because it is to protect the sun, as well as humans, do when we are exposed to the sun for a long time the melanin acts to protect us from skin cancer, although the cactus does not get cancer it can dry them out if they do not have these chemical reactions on them.

To conclude I would like to give some very interesting facts about cacti that make them noble and extraordinary plants:

Cacti can be very long-lived: If this type of plant receives the necessary care and attention they can survive for a long time, although not all species are like this if they can live much longer than an average plant.

They have very extended roots:* Just as the imposing trees of the forest have roots to stabilize and absorb water, cacti if they are planted in the right place can extend their roots vary widely, which is why it is recommended not to water them frequently as all these roots and micro roots can rot.

The thorns are leaves:* An interesting characteristic of the cactus is that all its foliage of thorns that also defend them from animals are leaves that have been created specifically to withstand high temperatures, as the thorns do not let water escape so easily or the internal humidity of the plant, makes them resist even the strongest sun.

And finally another impressive characteristic of cacti is that when some cacti have buds, these can be cultivated as another cactus, and this is possible because they know how to adapt quickly and they grow roots very fast, of course, this does not apply to certain species that release new shoots when they are big enough, like the cactus on the cover of this publication.

Anyway, these plants are very noble, beautiful and above all resistant, they teach us that even if the problems around us are like a strong sun of 50 degrees Celsius, we can endure them if we know how to adapt.

Desde que era pequeño siempre me ha fascinado el cuidar de las plantas o ver cómo crecen y se forman hermosas flores de distintos colores, también me gusta ver todas las variedades en que se presentan, ya sean con hojas largas, cortas o con figuras mixtas. Las plantas siempre tienen una enorme belleza que ofrecer.

Y repito, me encanta tener plantas y cuidarlas, pero por mi trabajo y el clima tan desfavorable donde vivo, es imposible ciudad de ellas, ya que la vida tan ocupada que llevo y como el sol es tan fuerte, todas las plantas que he podido tener no aguantan mucho y se marchitan.

Por eso en vez de seguir teniendo plantas que es muy probable que se mueran, decidí que lo mejor es tener cactus, que no necesitan mucha agua y pueden aguantar el clima tan caluroso y caliente que hay donde vivo. Claro, conseguir cactus es todo un desafío ya que como es una planta muy codiciada o valorada es muy costosa comprarla en un vivero así que es mejor cortar algún retoño que encuentre en la calle o pedirle a alguien que ya tenga muchos. Entre mi esposa y yo hemos podido conseguir aproximadamente 7 especies de cactus, algunos muy espinosos y otros como las suculentas que no son para nada espinosas.

Pero aunque son plantas que no requieren mucha agua y se pueden exponer abiertamente al sol, aún tengo que luchar todos los días contra los pajaritos que se comen por parte los cactus y también las escolopendras o cien pies, que hasta ahora son los únicos animales o insectos que he visto comerse un cactus tan rápido y tan seguido. Por eso todos los días trato de limpiarlas y cuidarlas. Si te preguntas porque están de color rojo o vino tinto, pues es porque es para protegerse el sol así como hacen los seres humanos cuando estamos expuestos al sol mucho tiempo la melanina actúa para protegernos del cáncer de piel, aunque a los cactus no les da cáncer si los puede secar si no tienen estas reacciones químicas sobre ellos.

Para concluir me gustaría dar algunos datos muy interesantes sobre los cactus que los convierten en plantas nobles y extraordinarias:

Los cactus pueden ser muy longevos: Si este tipo de planta recibe cuidados y atención necesarios pueden sobrevivir mucho tiempo, aunque no todas las especies son así si pueden vivir mucho más que una planta promedio.

Tienen raíces muy extendidas: Así como los imponentes arboles del bosque tienen raíces para estabilizarse y absorber agua, los cactus si están sembrados en el sitio adecuado pueden extender muy ampliamente sus raíces, es por esto que se recomienda no regarlas con frecuencia ya que todas estas raíces y micro raíces se pueden pudrir.

Las espinas son hojas:* Una característica interesante de los cactus es que todo su follaje de espinas que además los defienden de los animales, son hojas que han sido creadas específicamente para soportar las altas temperaturas, ya que las espinas no dejan escapar tan fácil el agua o la humedad interna de la planta, las hace resistir hasta el sol más fuerte.

Es una planta clonarle: Y por último otra característica impresionante de los cactus es que cuando algunos cactus tienen brotes, estos se puede cultivar como otro cactus, y esto es posible porque se saben adaptar rápidamente y les salen raíces muy rápido, claro esto no aplica con ciertas especies que liberan a los rotes nuevos cuando ya están lo suficientemente grandes, como el cactus de la portada de esta publicación.

En fin, estas plantas son muy nobles, hermosas y sobre todo resistentes, nos enseñan que aunque los problemas que tengan a nuestro alrededor sean como un fuerte sol de 50 grados Celsius, podemos soportarlos si nos sabemos adaptar.
