Greetings dear photography lovers
El trabajo que hoy les comparto fue un gran reto, me costó muchísimo encontrar información sobre esta planta. Después de muchas horas de investigación descubrí que se trata de una Scaevola Taccada, o mejor conocida como Col de Playa o Lechuga de Mar.
The work I am sharing with you today was a great challenge, I had a hard time finding information about this plant. After many hours of research I discovered that it is a Scaevola Taccada, or better known as Beach Cabbage or Sea Lettuce.
Este es un gran arbusto que se encuentra normalmente en zonas costeras muy cercanas al mar. Este matorral prefiere los sustratos arenosos o pedregosos, presentando muy buena tolerancia a la sal marina. Esta característica la hace muy útil para la prevención de la erosión costera.
This is a large shrub normally found in coastal areas very close to the sea. This bush prefers sandy or stony substrates, presenting very good tolerance to sea salt. This characteristic makes it very useful for the prevention of coastal erosion.
El brillante verde de sus hojas y el hecho que florece todo el año, mostrando unas peculiares pero muy hermosas florecillas blancas en forma de abanico o media flor, la hace muy atractiva para ser usada en el paisajismo.
The bright green of its leaves and the fact that it flowers all year round, showing some peculiar but very beautiful white flowers in the shape of a fan or half a flower, makes it very attractive to be used in landscaping.
Un detalle curioso sobre esta planta es que en las Islas Malvinas sus hojas se llegaron a usar con cierta frecuencia, durante periodos de hambruna. Además en algunas culturas orientales es usada dentro de su medicina tradicional.
A curious detail about this plant is that in the Falkland Islands its leaves came to be used with some frequency, during periods of famine. In addition, in some oriental cultures it is used in traditional medicine.
