Today I want to share with you Hivers One of the most beautiful caves of Bulgaria. Prohodna is one of the most famous caves in Bulgaria, located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Karlukovo (0.5 km away), an emblem of the Karlukovo karst region. The geological phenomenon is located 250 meters above sea level.
It is the longest cave tunnel in Bulgaria, with a length of 365 meters and a height of the vaults of 56 meters.As a result of the denudation processes and the erosion caused by the seeping waters, the phenomenon of "The Windows" ("The Chimneys"), erroneously called the "Eyes of God" - two huge, almost equal-sized openings in the shape of eyes - has formed in the ceiling. Viewed both from below and from above, they very much resemble eyes that seem to stare at visitors. The impressive effect of the light entering through them is observed in the interior of the cave, naturally illuminated by the bizarre huge formations, since the difference in level between the two entrances is large, and the daylight from the outside mainly enters through the "Window".
Prohodna is a cave corridor - a spectacular rock bridge, the direction of which is oriented from east to west. It was formed at the end of the Cretaceous period 66-68 million years ago. In the past, the waters of the river Iskar filled the cave.
The cave has become an emblem of Bulgarian nature, and its "view" is increasingly common in advertising videos and materials.
During the geological student expedition "Iskar Gorge 2008", the cave was assessed as a geotope of national significance, according to the criteria of the Register and Cadastre of Geological Phenomena in Bulgaria.
According to archaeologists, in ancient times the cave was an important occult site for local residents, where various rituals were performed. On March 21, when it was the vernal equinox, a fertility ritual was performed. On this day, a sunbeam passes through the interior of the cave, illuminating it at a specific angle.
During the bombings in the Second World War, the locals took refuge in the cave.
Living near this lovely cave, I had the opportunity to take friends from Egypt who are on a trip to Bulgaria and they were left speechless by the beauty of this cave and the nature that embraces it. After the journey, we decided to treat ourselves to the village restaurant and take a breather from the journey. We were all enchanted and pleasantly surprised
