Hello Nature Lovers!😃🌻
Nature News is an initiative by Amazing Nature Community
We present report No. 2 for the month of April
We work hard so that the news we present comes from serious and reliable sources: such as sections of newspapers and scientific research published in internationally recognized journals.
📢What's happening in the world?🌎
Unlike other news, here we are not going to focus on the human being, rather, on the nature that surrounds us.🐢🌺
We know how much you enjoy nature! That is why today we bring you the best news and information of interest to each of the Amazing Nature Community members. We hope you enjoy it!😄
Can wild animals heal themselves?🙊🍂
Many of us know homemade medical recipes, either because one of our grandparents told us this, or perhaps because we found information on the Internet. Many of us know that there are many species of plants with healing properties, and that when we boil the leaves in water we will obtain a tea that will cure our diseases.

This knowledge about plants with healing properties, will wild animals also know? we will see a specific case with primates in this article...
A journalistic note published in BioGuía by Hernán Lameda
Primatologist Mike Huffman has had the opportunity to document one of the ways that wild animals tend to their health problems, some other articles have been published on this.

If we think of a zoo we will surely link the diseases of the animals with the veterinarians of the place, who take care of their ailments and do research on this. In wild life, surprisingly we will also see that some animals know how to treat diseases and heal themselves.
This knowledge is not so recent
About 35 years ago, primatologist Mike Huffman was studying a group of chimpanzees. Then, he noticed that a female among the chimpanzees began to show symptoms of illness and fever.
This female looked tired and her eyes were red. There were signs of sweating on her fur, indicating fever in the case of primates. Then something strange happened: she left her young with the other specimens, so that the other chimpanzees could take care of her.

Then, she started a search, it seemed that she found a type of plant among the vegetation. It is a bush called mjonso, which is known to be poisonous. However, the female chimpanzee took some branches and chewed them, was she self-medicating or was it suicide?
Why was she doing that herself? Even more so when she was noticed that she chose the plant, she knew what species of plant she was. The truth is that the animal was in a very calm state. Primatologist Mike Huffman thought the worst: that this female had died.
The unexpected surprise
Apparently the female had eaten the plant, and she was on the ground, she looked like she had died. However, the next day the animal woke up and appeared to be in good health!

In addition, he separated from the group and went to a swampy area. There again it was noticed that he consumed some carefully selected plants: figs, ginger and the well-known elephant grass, incredible, don't you think?
The primatologist saw something else: it happens that the animal did not eat the mjonso grass, but only chewed it. Then, he realized the animal's health improved after a few days and she returned to take care of his children.

It seems that not only humans know how to naturally self-medicate and cure our diseases, animals in the wild also have knowledge of the properties of the vegetation that surrounds them.
What do you think about this❓
Do you know of any other species that can self-medicate❓
