Cross Winds

Moon Clouds Hail Stones

Waking to a lovely morning with gentle breeze the mountains were relatively clear at 9 am in the morning, birds song added peace in the valley.

IMG_1480.JPG

Mid-morning contentedly looking above this sight captured the imagination of a little dragon laid back puffing away quite peaceably above.

IMG_1519.JPG

Mid-afternoon clouds started rolling in over the escarpment, no surprise, having been a relatively hot day.

IMG_1579.JPG

Cold air suddenly swooped down the valley, what strange tumbling change in weather at high altitude. Prior to sudden developments....

IMG_1603.JPG

No wind with temperature close to 29 Celsius, at end of day small hail stones fell from the sky above.

IMG_1616.JPG

'Potion' blending above for interesting sunset, onset of storms are swift, a Hikers Drakensberg Mountains nightmare, one minute in bright sunlight the next moment surrounded within swirling inclement weather.

IMG_1620.JPG

Children obviously from the coast were having fun collecting hail stones into containers, not something we see often....

IMG_1630.JPG

Lightning strikes with rolling thunder booming between the basalt cliffs happened at night fortunately, leaving children happy collecting ice for Dad's 'sundowner'.....

IMG_1625.JPG

Starting the day off with cumulus clouds which normally means good weather by late afternoon changed shape and form in a very short period of time into cumulonimbus clouds producing heavy rain with hail.

Spectacular Cloud Dance

On the opposite side of the valley the pink bubbly effect....

IMG_1641.JPG

Back to performance that took my breath away!

IMG_1643.JPG

Whispy silky clouds peeling off the main cloud lifted by high winds, a sight one could imagine what chaos happens slightly higher up to where we are firmly planted on the ground.

IMG_1650.JPG

On three nights we had Zeus moving furniture around on the tops of Lesotho, dancing a path down into the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, always lovely to sit outdoors watching the sky light up, sudden rain or brilliant sunset after sudden rains.

Scary, a bit chaotic, something like everyday life in cities, except nature rules here!

Happy Sunday, thanks for visiting hope you ventured out and enjoyed it!

Breathtaking photos of the clouds, I imagined myself watching in amazement. Are you back from the week away?

Sadly the time flew by so quickly, yes back once again and starting to get into some office work this week as well....

Trust you are well, I believe extremely hot and dry up there still, hope the weather brings some rains soon.

!LUV Take care and have a great evening.

I am well thanks, it's been extremely hot over here the last two days are better, not sure what the weather will be like this week.

Have a great week ahead.

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
What beautiful cloud formations, there are very nice figures there, as a child I loved to gather the hail, your images have brought me pleasant memories
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy start to the week

Children had so much fun running around collecting these tiny little stones, they too stopped to watch the clouds for a split second before dashing off once again.

Have a wonderful week ahead and thanks for kind words and support always.

Wowee!!

Dramatic sky was wowee 😇

indeed , awesome

I love your photos! There is space and freedom below. Very nice.😊

Photography does not quite capture what the eye sees, dramatic blue some days then murky on others. Storms are super impressive!

Nice picture dear

Awestruck at speed development takes place, thanks for visiting.

!LUV have a great day.

Wow, seems like quite a big change of whether within a day.

Weather up there is unpredictable. Same afternoon people walking in hot sunlight caught out in the rain, looking up no cloud directly above... Yup that is crazy! We call it a "Monkey's Wedding" !LOLZ

Oh wow Joan, these are absolutely stunning photographs! I'm sure you didn't want to come back again. You make my heart long for solitude, fresh air, and the beauty of the Berg! Looks like you had an amazing time.

Fun was had, enjoyed high altitude away from humid coast for awhile, nice being tucked up close under the towering peaks.

Wonderful cloud formation photos, Joan. I remember collecting hailstones but it’s been awhile since any have fallen here. They can do quite a bit of damage to vehicles and such.

We experience hail stones less down on the coast. With summer approaching the insurance houses send out warning alerts via SMS about possible hail storms approaching certain regions, to take cover if possible.
