Wanderlust In Nature I Find Solace

Rambling Toward Serenity In Solitude

Sometimes many times one feels more comfort in ones own thoughts, arriving in places of tranquil beauty where nature is abundant I personally prefer a lot of me time to wonder around taking in surroundings. Away from people talking, noisy electronics in any form shape or size, only the comfort of a camera safely tucked into my hand.

That Itchy Scratchy feeling is starting to take hold, I'm needing the greater outdoors away from everything, now planning the first week in July to escape into the bush to check who is at home or passing through.

Emotions overwhelm during current times is a reality, going back re-live recent visit does help. Through the lens, photography not yet shown nature expresses itself in so many ways, here are some scenes from walks done in October 2020. So glad you are here to enjoy a day in the Drakensberg with me.

Mountain reedbuck (Redunca fulvorufula) quietly strolled into view enjoying the grass available close to the river, among the flowers making a precious moment watching her enjoying her solo picnic.

0007.JPG

Watchful eye and ears, slightest whistle from any of the herd would alert her, never straying too far the rest of the family group of up to six, will be within hearing distance. Silently she stood as did I, after all we humans are notorious at disturbing nature!

0027-CommonReedbuck.JPG

Male Mountain reedbuck has a round bare patch of black skin on upper back between shoulder blades, slightly shorter horn which led to identification, the Southern or Common reedbuck are slightly larger perhaps with greater distribution, all resident throughout Sub-Sahara Africa.

Reddish colouration allows for them to disappear into the tall grasses effortlessly, two of the three reedbuck "redunca" found in South Africa.

Hanging around on tall grass is nonbreeding male Red-collared widowbird another enjoying the early morning with spectacular viewpoint.

Male breeding Red-collared widowbird gave a brief appearance on the ferns, how majestic this small black bird is with his red collar surveying his surroundings, possibly in preparation of mating season he is readying himself for the next generation.

Drakensberg Sisking (crithagra symonsi) took to the tall grass to enjoy a nibble quietly before moving along, so many little faces to find in the trees, grasses or on the ground.

Needless to say we had a visitor in nimble fingers finding roots on the day, the baboon is not one to upset, so stood quietly one side watching him gathering his daily fare.

Chacma baboon (Papio ursinus)

Always close, Vervet monkeys also put in a show of foraging on the lawns for roots, never arguing with the baboon, only arrived when the coast was clear, mimicking finding food in a familiar way.

Itchyfeet started taking hold once again, the smell and feel of tall grasses, sound of birds singing, seeing the animals once more!

Yes we do have a garden full of birds, butterflies, a couple of moles pushing up the earth, just not quite the same.

Wanderlust to find serenity in the solitude of nature out in the bush. The quieter we become the more we see, hear, finding solace being one with what is around us, assisting in overcoming fears, stress or sadness.

Wishing you a wonderful day, keep smiling, enjoy life, rejoice in the music we listen to.

Beautiful photos and writeup Joan. All the animals and birds in your country are awesome. I love seeing the gorilla and monkeys. I can’t image being able to see a gorilla in the wild so close by.
!BEER and tip

This is a baboon, gorilla is much bigger in size, and live up in central Sub-Saharan Africa.

We are extremely fortunate to still see wildlife as we do, thanks for visiting and comment.

Thanks for engage tokens Joan. I don't know why I thought gorilla. 🤣

One I would love to see in real life and the Orangutan another.

Actually the baboon has a face shaped like a dog, with fangs, gorilla has a flat face similar to the human face and they live in four distinct areas, I only know of one person who has ever had the privilege of seeing one in natural habitat.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

You say what I am thinking sometimes most times and hope that I can have such a getaway soon again too, although the fauna and flora I will see in our mountains will not be as colorful and exotic as yours 😊

I love your story and the information you provide, although I have to admit it's too much for me to remember even the names of the animals later 😉 and I love your photos Joan 😃

!BEER and !WINE and !PIZZA - perfect 😃

Scale of differences is what I enjoy, your mountains project such a soft texture in flora, not so sure about the fauna up there perhaps you still have some hidden up the valleys.

Glad you enjoyed the read, remembering which are which when not seeing them regularly does mean taking on some research, then most have common local names we use the rest of the world would not know what we are talking about.

Thanks for visiting,

!BEER after walks
!WINE at dinner time

If the countries and continents wouldn't be different, who would leave home for vacation? 😎

We do have nice animals too, but if you're no hunter or such, they are hard to find, especially for unpatient people like me 🤣

You're most welcome, Joan, wish you a wonderful weekend with lots of sunshine, but not too hot 🌞

!PIZZA with !BEER or with !WINE - perfect dinner :)

Too true, travel is fun to see the variety in all lands.

Your animals by what I have read are slowly being introduced back with bears and wolves, hopefully the hunters are under instruction to leave wild animals soon.... Although to be totally honest it would be comforting to know how to use a fire arm in an emergency if a great big boar came heading down the hill at you 😄

Have a brilliant weekend, we had some lovely rain, a stunning sunset and hopefully now the start of Winter weather...

!ENGAGE 20
!BEER maybe lucky to have a !WINE too 😆

Our hunting laws are very strict, no bear or wolf will be shot except in a real emergency.
There are so few bears and wolves here in Austria that it would be great luck to meet one, but to be honest, I wouldn't want to have such luck 😉

We have had a nice sunny day and I am working tomorrow, but it will be an easy day where I can do a lot without being disturbed.

Have a !BEER and a !WINE from me to drink something while eating your !PIZZA ... you have also a wonderful weekend 🌞

Full moon, howling wolves would be quite an experience, hopefully something you will enjoy one night. Bears may visit looking for food, great big fellows not to be played with I presume.

Work is ongoing, bring the bacon home 😆to enable those dreamed about trips in planning, have a good weekend when you clock out for a couple of days!

!PIZZA for snacking on, followed by !BEER to wash it down. Oh the !WINE is for when you hear the wolves howling coming up to a full moon soon....

I'm working again today, so there will be even more bacon to bring home, and I wish you also a wonderful weekend 🌞

Also for you a !PIZZA with !BEER or with !WINE or with both :)

hello dear friend @joanstewart good night
What a beautiful collection of images that you send us on this occasion, I appreciate that you bring us this natural world

That sounds great, your visit to nature in June will be amazing, I can't wait to do it, without a doubt you will bring us beautiful photographs of your visit

I am like you, I prefer nature to the noisy city

I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid night and a well-deserved rest

Thanks for kind words @jlufer next stop is going to be a re-visit to a region in bush where the big five are found.

A place bordering onto five National Game Parks some leading into each other, offers varied wildlife and stunning natural views untouched by people.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Another beautiful collection of wild life and information nature is truly the peace to our soul and you have a abundance of it there 😊

Very beautiful. The nature in your area looks fantastic ... this post took me on a very interesting walk among plants and animals that I can't encounter here where I live.

Exactly what I enjoy in Hive is travel, nature and learning about different destinations. Each person has something unique to share, finding many interesting insights through the lens.

Oh, I loved so much walking beside you virtually, while showing us the wonders of the nature. Like you, I would love to escape and be of my own and the only sound to be heard to be the bird song or bee buzzing.
Terrific photos, delightful reading.

Not everyone understands absolute need to be out on their own, listening to the music of nature is calming, helping me through tough times.

Sorry, out of BEER, please retry later...
