Greetings @adalger and friends who love nature I present to you some beautiful round captus that are in a Plaza of my Carúpano City.
The Captus / The Habitat. / Round Captus
I will try to present several posts about the Captus and today I am talking about their Habitat:
Captus have a special habitat because they are plants that resist drought, since they have the ability to retain moisture and that ensures their survival, they can withstand dry soil, they usually have their roots in the ground, although they seem to be as if it were a tread bush.
They have the ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the air at night, opening the stomata to breathe and exchange gas for photosynthesis, which is done only in the presence of light. This is avoided, opening them during the day, warmer, which would provide a greater loss of water through respiration. The absence of leaves and the tough epidermis, the stomata covered with hair and many provided with waxy, help sweat to be as little as possible with a noticeable and minimal loss of moisture to the surrounding air.
