We can use as much pray as we can get in this upside down, inside out world we find ourselves in.
Got a visit from an adult Praying Mantis while working to fix a semi-frozen chainsaw.
First found he/she on the wheel of my bike just inside the open door of the shed.
I put "IT" in a plastic cup to move to the work table for a picture.
It stayed on the lip of the cup for me to take a few pictures. Then it scampered off falling into the leaves where it rested.
Reading up a bit on these unique guys found out they are called Praying for the typical religious ‘prayer-like’ stance. Not Preying for their predator nature.
There are about 2,000 species of Mantid", they can be found anywhere in the world where there are mild Winters. Most in Asia with some 20 in the USA.
Mating of the Mantis is a win, win for the female. After mating the male is eaten, which is an ongoing subject of research. This sexual cannibalism can also be seen with spiders, the Black Widow spider, the Jumping spider, & the Red Back spider along with a few other insects. Guess sex makes them hungry..
They only live about a year.
PS ... This is a female because of the size and the fact that males don't last but a few weeks before the dirty deed.
