Hello dear friends, delighted to participate in this week's Amazyn nature contest, with this post about plant life in a pond.

Los estanques son reservorios importantes de la flora acuática. Plantas adaptadas a vivir en el agua. Es maravilloso observar la asombrosa naturaleza que se desarrolla en estos ambientes.

Reservoirs are important reservoirs of aquatic flora. Plants adapted to live in water. It is wonderful to observe the amazing nature that develops in these environments.

Sus mecanismos tanto morfológicos como anatómicas y fisiológicos les permiten realizar sus funciones vitales en un sustrato donde ellas pueden estar en diferentes condiciones:

Their morphological, anatomical and physiological mechanisms allow them to perform their vital functions in a substrate where they can be in different conditions:

Con hojas flotantes y raíces sumergidas.
Con hojas flotantes, tallo sumergido y raíces que llegan al suelo.
Plantas completamente sumergidas.

With floating leaves, submerged stem and roots reaching the ground.
Completely submerged plants.

Por supuesto cada condición exige cambios cada vez más drásticos al compararlas con las plantas terrestres.

En visita realizada al estanque del Jardín Botánico de Caracas, fue maravilloso poder observar las plantas flotantes con sus grandes hojas y hermosas flores como el nenúfar y el loto. Las hojas se diferencian por el color, pero es muy característico de estas especies las hojas de forma redondeada o acorazonadas que flotan sobre la superficie del agua.

On a visit to the pond of the Caracas Botanical Garden, it was wonderful to observe the floating plants with their large leaves and beautiful flowers such as the water lily and the lotus. The leaves differ in color, but very characteristic of these species are the rounded or heart-shaped leaves that float on the surface of the water.

Las flores del nenúfar (género Nymphae), con corolas de muchos pétalos de colores blancos y rosados.

Water lily flowers (genus Nymphae), with corollas with many white and pink petals.

La flor de loto (Género Nelumbo) con peciolos largos y flores blancas o rosadas que se elevan sobre la superficie.

Lotus flower (Genus Nelumbo) with long petioles and white or pink flowers that rise above the surface.

Y esta hermosa flor de color morado y hojas flotantes, del género Nymphaea.

And this beautiful purple flower with floating leaves, from the genus Nymphaea.

También están allí conviviendo con estas plantas, helechos que crecen en la superficie como la Salvinia, que se muestra en la fotografía y que pueden bajo ciertas condiciones llegar a cubrir grandes superficies.

They are also there coexisting with these plants, ferns that grow on the surface as Salvinia, in this photograph, which can under certain conditions to cover large áreas.

También se observan ciperaceas y otras plantas que crecen en los bordes del estanque y cuyas raíces llegan al suelo.

There are also cyperaceae and other species of plants that grow on the edges of the pond and whose roots reach the ground.

Cada planta tiene su nicho y sus características adaptadas al medio, en una comunidad muy rica en diversidad.

Each plant has its niche and its characteristics adapted to the environment, in a community very rich in diversity.
