The Amazyn Nature community encourages us to participate in the Amazyn Nature contest-Thematic Challenge, where the theme of the week is The recovery of spaces.
En esta oportunidad para participar en este reto me dirigí a tomar fotografías en una plaza en la cual se inicio un trabajo de recuperación de las áreas verdes y de las aceras, bancos y otras áreas construidas con la finalidad de servir de esparcimiento a las personas de la comunidad.
In this opportunity to participate in this challenge I went to a square in which a work of recovery of green areas and sidewalks, benches and other areas built, in order to serve as recreation for the people of the community began.
Esta plaza llamada La plaza del estudiante era muy popular hace bastantes años en la ciudad de Maracay, porque era un lugar donde los jóvenes de las universidades y de la secundaria asistían para reunirse y estudiar, aprovechando las pizarras que en ella se encontraban y la tranquilidad del lugar. Yo misma, estuve muchas veces en esta plaza, con mis amigos. Llevábamos nuestras sillas de extensión y pasábamos horas de estudio y también de animadas conversaciones.
This square called La plaza del estudiante was very popular many years ago in the city of Maracay because it was a place where young people from universities and high school attended to meet and study, taking advantage of the blackboards that were there and the tranquility of the place.I myself, was many times in this square, with my friends. We would bring our extension chairs and spend hours studying.
Pero pasaron los años y se fue deteriorando, aun cuando se mantenía la belleza de los arboles plantados en ella. Alli hay almendrones, caobos, acacias y otras.
But the years passed and it deteriorated, even though the beauty of the trees planted in it was maintained. There are almond trees, mahogany trees, acacias and others.
Hace poco tiempo, se realizo un trabajo de recuperación donde además de las áreas verdes, se construyó una fuente, mesas para jugar ajedrez y un parque infantil y la plaza recupero su belleza y volvió a ser visitada por la comunidad.
Recently, a recovery work was carried out where, in addition to the green areas, a fountain, chess tables and a children's playground were built and the square regained its beauty and was once again visited by the community.
Pero lamentablemente el descuido de las personas y la falta de mantenimiento, hizo que se perdiera parte del trabajo que se realizo.
But unfortunately the carelessness of the people and the lack of maintenance, caused the loss of part of the work that was done.
Hace unos meses observe que de nuevo se hizo un intento de mejorar este espacio. Se pintaron algunos murales y se resembraron las áreas verdes.
A few months ago I noticed that again an attempt was made to improve this space. Some murals were painted and the green areas were reseeded.
Sin embargo pude observar que algunas de las plantas de Sansevieria, también llamada lengua de suegra, que fueron sembradas por los bordes de las áreas verdes, no se encuentran en buenas condiciones, solo unas pocas tienen brotes nuevos.
However, I could observe that some of the Sansevieria plants also called mother-in-law's tongue, which were planted along the edges of the green areas, are not in good condition, only a few of them have new shoots.
Estamos todavía en época de sequía, y esta especie aun cuando tolera esta condición, requiere de humedad durante su establecimiento, para soportar un clima muy caluroso donde la temperatura puede llegar a mas de 30 °C. Las plantas necesitan ser regadas
We are still in the dry season, and even though this species tolerates this condition, it requires humidity during its establishment to withstand the very hot climate where the temperature can reach more than 30 °C. Plants need to be watered
En otras áreas se sembraron especies como la cayena y el croto, que tambien requieren de humedad para establecerse, aun cuando están en un lugar mas sombreado.
In other areas, species such as cayenne and croto have been planted, which also require moisture to establish themselves, even when they are in a shadier location.
Las áreas verdes necesitan un mantenimiento continuo cuando se esta iniciando la siembra de especies ornamentales y tambien es importante conocer las condiciones ecológicas de cada especie para saber como cultivarlas. Así ellas pueden crecer y manifiestar todo su esplendor, para el disfrute de las personas que visitan la plaza, y para las otras especies que conviven en este espacio.
Green areas need continuous maintenance when planting ornamental species and it is also important to know the ecological conditions of each species to know how to cultivate them. This way they can grow in all their splendor, for the enjoyment of the people who visit the square, and for the other species that coexist in this space.
