Las orquídeas son plantas epifitas, es decir que viven sobre otras plantas, troncos o rocas y se alimentan de la materia orgánica que se deposita en el sustrato al alcance de sus raíces. Para esto tienen un tejido especial que se llama velamen radical.

En este árbol de flores color naranja llamado Tulipán Africano , observé una planta de orquídea solitaria que tenia una hermosa flor morada, característica del género Catleya. La Catleya es la flor nacional de mi país y es una planta que abunda en los bosques y selvas nubladas, donde las condiciones ecológicas son favorables para su desarrollo.
In this tree with orange flowers called African Tulip, I observed a solitary orchid plant with a beautiful purple flower, characteristic of the genus Catleya. Catleya is the national flower of my country and it is a plant that abounds in the forests and cloud forests, where the ecological conditions are favorable for its development.
¿Cómo llegó esa planta a este árbol? Pudiera ser que alguna persona la hubiera colocado allí o que alguna semilla llegó proveniente de otro lugar y pudo germinar. Sin embargo creo que la primera opción es la más probable porque, aún cuando las semillas de orquídea son dispersadas por el viento y pueden recorrer largas distancias, estas son muy pequeñas y requieren condiciones especiales para germinar.
How did this plant get to this tree? It could be that some person had placed it there or that some seed came from another place and was able to germinate. However, I think the first option is the most likely because even though orchid seeds are dispersed by the wind and can travel long distances, they are very small and require special conditions to germinate.
Allí está sobre el árbol y ha logrado producir una flor hermosa. Las personas que la han observado, quizás en un momento de contemplación de la naturaleza, seguramente se habrán sorprendido de encontrarla en este lugar, como me ocurrió a mi.
There it is on the tree and has managed to produce a beautiful flower. People who have observed it, perhaps in a moment of contemplation of nature, will surely have been surprised to find it in this place, as it happened to me.
La naturaleza nos puede sorprender en cualquier lugar, el secreto está en la observación de lo que nos rodea.

There are many ways this beautiful orchid came to the tree. If I omit the possibility that someone "planted" it there purposefully, I prefer the "natural" path. It is usually birds that transmit various seeds in the droppings or at the root of the beak :-)
Hello @bucipuci. Yes it is possible that that was the way the seed arrived, birds are another means of dispersal.
