A Beautiful Sublime Sunday - Ducks are Still at the Pond and a Goosenado...

I headed off to go pick up some fresh farm eggs and took the opportunity to check out the nearby pond for ducks. I was not disappointed for there were a number of flocks of ducks and duck families. The ducklings had all matured making it hard to distinguish them from the adults. That's a good thing for it won't be long and they will be migrating.

My visit this time I got an extra surprise as flocks of geese started coming in landing on the pond then a huge flock of Canada Geese followed by snow geese came in creating a goosenado! Some of which I captured on video and shared later in the post.

There was a smaller pond just at the turn off to get eggs which had a family of teal ducks on it. I got some shots before they headed off further from shore.

Back at the bigger pond there were lots of gadwell, teal, bufflehead and golden-eye ducks with a couple of grebes and coots.

Something I found funny was a sniper shorebird right along side the ducks as they rested in the shallow water created by a ridge of land that was flooded over. This spot was good for feeding too!

That area with the shallow water attracted a lot of ducks coming in to groom and rest while others were feeding around it.

You can see how busy that shallow spot in the water was in the video below...

While some of the ducks liked those shallow areas to rest in the Barrow's Golden-eye ducks were fine resting on the water as you can see below, they just tucked their heads in and floated along.

After watching the ducks for awhile some geese started coming onto the pond to rest.

When watching the geese coming in on the far side of the pond I noticed a number of ravens sitting in the trees that had their beautiful Fall colors.

As you can see there were quite a few geese settling on the pond along with the other ducks who were out feeding.

Flocks of Geese, Buffleheads Ducks and Gadwell Duck on the Pond

The smaller flocks of what seemed like the Greater Canada Geese (they looked pretty big) were the first to come in then the Lessers and snow geese came in.

That family of geese kind of swam off by themselves resting behind some shrubs.

The Buffleheads are a cute and very active ducks. They are divers and there were a few that were really funny splashing in the water with even one running along the water - they were fun to watch!

Also out with the geese were a pair of grebes.

While the ducks were starting to settle in a large flock of snow geese came by.

The snow geese came in such numbers that it created like a goosenado as they were dropping from the sky!

I loved how the sunlight caught the white of the snow geese feathers.

The last picture I have to share with you is of a coot that was swimming along closer to the shore. It was getting darker and was beginning to rain so it looks rather shadowy but created a lovely ripple in the water.

Hehe, you for sure are the Hivean with the most pictures about duck ^^ .. you must actually already be a real expert for these little fellows ;)

I'm beginning to think folks will think I'm obsesses with ducks and geese but it is just this time of year when they are in such abundance and I love photography them and learning about each of the species. It's exciting to me when I find a new duck or for that matter goose - heck any bird!

What a beautiful post @porters!! I can almost imagine being there. You must love taking photos of the birds. Jamie is loving taking bird photos around here at the moment.

Yes ever since I got a decent camera where I can zoom in on the birds it has really peaked my interest in bird watching being I live in an area where a lot of the songbirds breed and on the migratory path!

You have such a diverse variety of birds in Australia and I hope you share more the bird pictures in your goal to photograph all the birds around your place!
Is Jamie sharing them on his account?
