Con mucha alegría comparto este post de la Alpinia Purpurata, una planta ornamental que revive la emoción al recibir mi primer arreglo floral, cuando cumplí quince (15) años, aún recuerdo la sorpresa y curiosidad por la textura y forma alargada (brácteas) de sus flores.

Origen y Generalidades
La Alpinia purpurata es originaria de Oceanía, pertenece a la familia Zingiberaceae y es la flor nacional de la Isla Samoa.
Tiene varios nombres populares entre ellos Jengibre Rojo y Ginger Rojo, enfatizando en ambos el color más frecuente de sus flores el rojo, sin embargo es importante destacar que existen también de color rosado, la Alpinia purpurata Rosa.
Actualmente de ambas variedades coexisten en el jardín de mi hogar, y nos regalan todo el año la radiante belleza de sus flores, las cuales disfruto a diario.
Origin and Generalities
Purple Alpinia is native to Oceania, belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, and is the national flower of Samoa Island.
It has several popular names including Red Ginger and Red Ginger, both of which emphasize the more frequent color of its flowers, red, but it is important to note that there are also pink flowers, the Pink Purple Alpinia.
Both varieties currently coexist in my home garden, and they give us the radiant beauty of their flowers all year round, which I enjoy every day.

Características
La Alpinia Purpurata es una planta rizomatosa, puede crecer hasta dos (2) o tres (3) metros de alto.
Sus flores son resplandeciente de color rojo o rosa, textura encerada, con un sutil aroma a jengibre que las caracteriza.
Son muy apreciadas en la decoración y floristería por su larga vida después de cortada, la cual puede extenderse por varias semanas.
Sus hojas son verde intenso, grandes (pueden medir hasta medio metro) y de forma alargada, con una vena central gruesa que la ayuda a mantenerse erguida, ofreciéndole una apariencia elegante a la planta y flores.
Las hojas forman hermosos follajes y son también utilizadas en la decoración.
Characteristics
Alpinia Purpurata is a rhizomatous plant, it can grow up to two (2) or three (3) meters tall.
Its flowers are resplendent red or pink, waxed texture, with a subtle aroma of ginger that characterizes them.
They are highly prized in decoration and floristry for their long life after cutting, which can extend for several weeks.
Its leaves are deep green, large (up to half a meter long), and elongated in shape, with a thick central vein that helps it stand upright, giving the plant and flowers an elegant appearance.
The leaves form beautiful foliage and are also used in decoration.

Es una planta muy generosa, no necesita cuidados especiales, sólo riego moderado, luz solar (semidirecta o directa) y suficiente espacio para crecer y reproducirse, lo que hace con facilidad.
No requiere poda, las hojas o flores secas simplemente se descartan.
Care
It is a very generous plant, it doesn't need special care, only moderate watering, sunlight (semi-direct or direct), and enough space to grow and reproduce, which it does easily.
It doesn't require pruning, the dry leaves or flowers are simply discarded.
Alpina Rosada / Alpina Pink
En los climas tropicales florece todo el año, de manera abundante.
No es resistente a bajas temperaturas.
It can be grown in pots or directly in the soil, even in semi-arid or low fertility areas.In tropical climates, it flowers all year round, in abundance.
It is not resistant to low temperatures.
