When we think of flowers, we tend not to look above our eye-line. However, many trees blossom and produce flower heads way above our heads. Simply by looking up we can find a new world to explore with the camera.
For example, a Butterfly bush (Buddleja) of the Scrophulariaceae is a shrub that can grow almost three meters tall. Not quite a tree, granted, but the blooms are visible at eye-level and above and attract many butterflies.
This Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros) was happy with me taking photographs for five minutes while it was busy feeding from the Buddleja.

Traditional pink cherry blossoms are often the most popular due to their rich color - these trees often provide early food for insects such as this buff-tailed bumble bee (Bombus terrestris).

Finally, firs and pines also bloom, although not in such a "showy" way. Their flowers are understated and clustered in amongst pine needles. These trees don't need showy flowers as they are entirely pollinated by wind, as you will have discovered if you have ever parked under one of these trees in the spring.
