From the life of storks

Hello my dear friends!
Today I want to talk about baby storks. These amazing birds come to my country every year to breed. They settle near human habitation (they are synanthrope birds).

There are many legends about these birds. So, for example, it is believed that they bring babies. In fact, the origin of this legend has rather prosaic roots. Storks are carnivorous birds. They eat frogs, fish, mice, rats, small hares, etc. The cry of a hare resembles the cry of a baby, hence the legend that storks bring babies.

Both the male and the female take care of the offspring. They take turns incubating the eggs and then take turns caring for the chicks. Externally, the sex of a bird cannot be determined. This, as we have said many times, is one of the signs that both birds in a pair are caring parents.

At the same time, nature is a rather serious lady who does not tolerate sentimentality. If the summer is dry and there is a shortage of food, stork parents can throw extra chicks out of the nest in order to save at least half of the offspring. Or eat them... They do the same with sick and weak chicks.

It is these chicks that become the objects of our care. It is good if they do not break their legs or wings when falling from the height of a stork's nest. That is why it is almost always a bad idea to try to bring the chick back to the nest: the parents will throw it out again and it's good if the fall is successful again.

Another situation is if the nest fell as a result of a storm or for another reason. Then special services may try to return it to its place. But more often the result will be the same: the chicks will need the help of people.
