About Squirrels Keeping 🐿

in Amazing Naturelast year

Bzzz!

My first acquaintance with the squirrel happened in the park, where you could come and tap the tree trunk with a nut to lure the squirrel to you. She came down to us along the trunk of a tree with her head down, firmly clinging to the bark with the claws of her hind paws, and with her front paws she took the nut right from my hands! So fast, beautiful and fluffy... It made a lasting impression on me.

Here's a post about the promised squirrels, the raccoon neighbors. In their enclosures, one of the bars is adjacent, so they quickly explained to the raccoon that it's safe and cozy here, and they also have delicious food.

Soon, the spring molt will begin, and their reddish fluffy fur will become less bright, the hair on their tails will noticeably thin out. By autumn, a new undercoat will grow, and they will once again become beautiful fluffy bundles!

Such natural cyclicity allows animals to not freeze in winter and not overheat in summer. And the constantly renewing fur allows the squirrels to look impeccable without visiting hairdressers or taking baths))

Our acquaintances keep a couple of squirrels and dream that they will populate all nearby plantings and forest strips with their offspring. Although I have doubts about the survival of domestic offspring in the wild, the idea is good and kind. Predators will certainly be grateful for this.

One of the well-known distinguishing features of many squirrels is their ability to store nuts for the winter. Some species of squirrels bury them in the ground, others hide them in hollow trees. Scientists believe that the poor memory of some species of squirrels, in particular gray squirrels, helps preserve forests, as they bury nuts in the ground and forget about them, and new trees appear from germinated seeds.
They mainly feed on vegetation rich in proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The most difficult time for squirrels is early spring, when buried seeds begin to germinate and can no longer serve as food, and new ones have not yet ripened. During this period, squirrels feed on the buds of trees, in particular silver maple. Squirrels are omnivorous: in addition to nuts, seeds, fruits, mushrooms and green vegetation, they also eat insects, eggs and even small birds, as well as mammals and frogs. Very often this food replaces nuts for squirrels in tropical countries.
Squirrels in settlements are able to feed from bird feeders, dig up planted plants in search of seeds, and settle in indoor areas such as attics.

Squirrels are unpretentious in content, if the area allows you!
Squirrels mainly eat nuts and grains. Berries and vegetables in moderate quantities will also be beneficial for squirrels in the winter period, especially those kept in captivity.

These are mischievous and playful creatures that I would not recommend keeping in the house. They need a large enclosure with lots of logs, branches, burrows, and dens where they can play and run at high speeds. (ideally a whole forest) If squirrels are kept in a cage, the animal will be unhappy, and if squirrels are kept in the house, you will be unhappy.

Thank you for entering the competition.
It is a very interesting attempt to breed squirrels and let them "populate" the wild.

I will keep you posted on the progress of this experiment.
Thank you for your attention to my content!
Have a nice day!

They look very pretty...

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen pet squirrels before. I imagine they need lots of space to be happy and a tree to climb. They look cute.

You are absolutely right. They need a lot of space and toys. These animals really look happy

Keeping squirrels as pets is most unusual, do they live in the wild in your region as well?

!LUV

In our climate, squirrels are found, but are extremely rare.
Squirrels caught by cats, foxes and birds of prey((

Oh then it would be exciting to breed and try re-wild them bring the population up. Good luck in your efforts !PIZZA

Thank you very much for your visit and good wishes.
I hope our experiment will be successful
