Blessed Needle Monday for All
Emocionada me encuentro con ustedes de encontrarme aquí en este día especial dedicado a la costura, compartiré una de mis actividades de costura, la más notable de la semana. Se trata de un Traje de Baño de dos Piezas para Niña. Tiene como detalles lazos y voladitos, considero que le aportan un toque delicado y hermoso.
I am excited with you to be here on this special day dedicated to sewing, I will share one of my sewing activities, the most notable of the week. This is a two-piece swimsuit for girls. It has bows and ruffles as details, I think they give it a delicate and beautiful touch.
En el poco tiempo que voy aprendiendo de la costura, me he dado cuenta que ciertas telas son las más recomendables para realizar ciertas prendas. Pero en este caso fue diferente. La hija de mi amiga Carmen quería un traje de baño, así que me encargó hacerle uno. La verdad es primera vez que intento esto, jamás habría cruzado por mi mente que tan pronto incursionaría en unas prendas como estas. No tenía a la mano telas alicradas como para traje de baño, pero opté por trabajar con lo que tenía a la mano, que era tela Beverly. No sin antes consultar con mi amiga lo que sucedía, pero ella no se opuso de ninguna manera. Así que solucionado eso, me puse manos a la obra.
In the short time that I have been learning about sewing, I have realized that certain fabrics are the most recommended for making certain garments. But in this case it was different. My friend Carmen's daughter wanted a swimsuit, so she asked me to make one for her. The truth is, this is the first time I've tried this, it would never have crossed my mind that I would venture into garments like these so soon. I didn't have any thin swimsuit fabrics on hand, but I chose to work with what I had on hand, which was Beverly fabric. Not without first consulting with my friend what was happening, but she did not object in any way. So with that resolved, I got to work.
La pieza superior se trata de una especie de top básico con voladitos en ambos lados. Le he colocado un lazo central de tamaño medio, para aportar un toque más femenino. No usé elástica, ni similares, solo la misma tela respetando las direcciones de estiramiento.
The top piece is a kind of basic top with ruffles on both sides. I have placed a medium-sized central bow, to provide a more feminine touch. I did not use elastic or anything similar, just the same fabric respecting the stretch directions.
La pieza inferior se trata de una panty de corte alto. En la parte frontal superior tiene voladitos combinados a tono rosa con un par de lazos pequeños de cada lado. La parte de entrepierna tampoco lleva elástica, sino más bien listones tipo Rib en respeto con el sentido de estire de la tela.
The bottom piece is a high-cut panty. On the upper front part it has combined pink ruffles with a pair of small bows on each side. The crotch part does not have elastic either, but rather rib-type slats in respect with the sense of stretch of the fabric.

Proceso de Creación / Creation Process
Comenzaremos cortando las piezas que necesitamos. Para la medida de Panty, he usado como referencia una misma de la niña. En cuanto al número de piezas necesitamos dos para la panty y dos para el top. Además de los rectangulos para los lazos, listones para el rib de entrepierna y detalles de orilla en el top.
We will start by cutting the pieces we need. For the Panty measurement, I have used the girl's own as a reference. As for the number of pieces, we need two for the panty and two for the top. In addition to the rectangles for the ties, ribbons for the crotch rib and edge details on the top.
Teniendo cortadas las piezas, vamos a nuestra máquina de coser.
Having cut the pieces, we go to our sewing machine.
Armado de Panty / Panty assembly:
Comenzamos enfrentando los derechos de la panty, para unir con costura recta. Colocamos el orillo con el listón de la misma tela. Estiramos un poco la tela al hacerlo, para así volverle flexible.
We begin by facing the right sides of the panty, to join with a straight seam. We place the edge with the ribbon of the same fabric. We stretch the fabric a little when doing so, to make it flexible.

Uniremos por ambos laterales de la cintura. Y por el frente superior le colocamos los voladitos, para hacerlos haremos pliegues a medida que pasamos costura recta.
We will join on both sides of the waist. And on the upper front we place the ruffles, to make them we will make folds as we sew a straight seam.

Con un listón, repetimos el mismo proceso de la entrepierna, pero esta vez en la cintura. Después cosemos y armamos los lazos, que al tenerlos listos los cosemos manualmente a la panty.
With a ribbon, we repeat the same process for the crotch, but this time at the waist. Then we sew and assemble the ties, and once we have them ready we sew them manually to the panty.

Armado de Top / Top Assembly:
Tomamos ambas piezas principales y enfrentamos los derechos, cosemos en la parte superior de los hombros. Con los listones, haremos los orillos, sin estirar mucho el mismo. Solo del cuello.
We take both main pieces and face right sides, we sew on the top of the shoulders. With the slats, we will make the edges, without stretching them too much. Only the neck.

Con los listones de color rosa haremos los detalles de pliegues. Para ello marcamos los laterales por donde haremos los voladitos y asi nos puedan quedar lo más simétricos posibles.
With the pink ribbons we will make the fold details. To do this, we mark the sides where we will make the overhangs so that they can be as symmetrical as possible.

Ahora si podemos colocar los orillos de las sisas. Y cerramos por ambos costados, con una costura recta.
Now we can place the edges of the armholes. And we close on both sides, with a straight seam.

En la parte inferior haremos un dobladillo sencillo con una costura recta. Para finalizar cosemos y armamos de manera independiente el lazo, que después se lo colocaremos al top en el centro del mismo.
At the bottom we will make a simple hem with a straight seam. To finish, we sew and independently assemble the bow, which we will then place on the top in the center of it.

No había pensado poder realizarlo, sin embargo el resultado fue muy lindo. La niña de mi buena amiga estaba super emocionada, porque recientemente le habían obsequiado una piscina. Sin dudarlo, al día siguiente temprano aprovechó de ponerse su traje de baño, mientras el papá le llenaba la piscina. I had not thought I would be able to do it, however the result was very nice. My good friend's girl was super excited, because she had recently been given a swimming pool. Without hesitation, early the next day she took the opportunity to put on her swimsuit, while her father filled the pool for her. Here I share a photo that my mother gave me to share with you:
La costura ha simbolizado mucho para mí, no solo desde un punto de vista economico, sino también emocional. Claramente a medida de lo que voy haciendo y aprendiendo, genero ingresos. Pero, desde el lado emocional, me hace sentirme útil y creativa. Me ayuda a mantener mi mente trabajando en positividad y a retarme a realizar nuevas cosas que antes veía imposibles.
Sewing has symbolized a lot for me, not only from an economic point of view, but also emotionally. Clearly, as I do and learn, I generate income. But, from the emotional side, it makes me feel useful and creative. It helps me keep my mind working in positivity and challenge myself to do new things that I previously thought were impossible.
