I hope you’re all doing well, or are trying to be well. As for me, I suppose I’m not too bad, as I’ve been feeling quite calm this weekend. On Saturday, in keeping with that sense of calm, I wanted to crochet something. And since I’m already working through my autumn plans, it seemed like a wonderful idea.
Even though the weather has been getting colder and we’re heading quickly towards winter, I couldn’t quite leave autumn behind — I’m sure you’ve noticed that as well. Taking advantage of this, and thinking about the dozens of unused skeins I have, I decided to make a leaf.

In the video, she talks about making a cushion, but since I didn’t have anything to fill it with, I wanted to make just a leaf 🍁 that I could hang on my wall. Maybe I can turn it into a cushion later on, but I feel like it might be too small.
I had three skeins in terracotta tones. I actually bought this colour because it’s such a perfect autumn shade. To be honest, I originally wanted to make a pumpkin 🎃 but then I thought I’d seen enough pumpkins last week 😂
You can see the detailed explanation in the video. I think it’s quite clear even for beginners. The only problem for me was sometimes I had trouble understanding her accent. Of course, that might also be because of the noise at home at the same time.
Apart from the initial chain, it’s honestly not a project that requires counting. I didn’t even count how many single crochets there were in each row. I only knew where I needed to end up and what I had to do at that point. To create the layered look, you go up with 4 chains, then turn with 8 single crochets, and afterwards you chain 2 and skip 1 space.
After that space, you join the 2 chains with a slip stitch, turn the project around, make 2 single crochets into the space you created, and then continue normally.
That’s the whole logic. It’s actually very simple. At first, I was a bit confused and genuinely wondered if that was really all there was to it. But by taking my time and watching the video, I finished the leaf in about an hour. In the video, she only shows part of the leaf and asks us to repeat the rest, so the video part took me even less time.
Once it was finished, this is what it looked like. Apart from the gaps you create for turning, the entire project uses single crochet. Since I wanted the project to be a bit thicker, I used two strands together — meaning I held two yarns side by side. With my 5 mm hook it turned out a little stiff. Honestly, I could have used a 7, but it’s not an important detail for now. Maybe when I decide to turn it into a cushion, I’ll use 3 strands together and a 9 mm hook.
I really liked this idea. I might just need to find another skein in the same shade. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to find it. We’ll see what life brings.
For now, this leaf is going into the frame where I hang my other small projects. Maybe when I make a few more little things like this, I’ll share them with you. You know I love sharing things with you even if I’m not working on big projects. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m not also working on bigger things in the background 😉

Umarım iyisinizdir ya da iyi olmaya çalışıyorsunuzdur. Haftasonu kendi çok dingin hissettiğim için fena değilim diyebilirim sanırım. Cumartesi günü bu dinginliğe uygun olarak bir şeyler örmek istedim. Hazır bir de sonbahar planlarımı gerçekleştiriyorken harika bir plan gibi göründü.
Hava soğusa ve kışa doğru hızlı adımlarla ilerlesek bile bir türlü sonbaharı ardımda bırakamadım, siz de fark etmişsinizdir bu durumu. Bunu fırsat bilerek ve elimde kullanmadım onlarca ipi de düşünerek bir yaprak yapmaya karar verdim.
Bu yaprağın fikrini ise bu linkteki videodan bulabilirsiniz. Videodan bir yastıktan bahsediyor ama ben içini dolduracak malzemem olmadığı için yastık yerine sadece duvarıma asabileceğim bir yaprak 🍁 olarak yapmak istedim. Belki daha sonra bunu yastığa çevirebilirim ama çok küçük olur gibi de geliyor.
Elimde 3 adet kiremit tonlarında yumağım vardı. Hatta bu rengi tam bir sonbahar rengi olduğu için almıştım. Aklımda açıkçası balkabağı 🎃 yapmak vardı fakat geçtiğimiz haftada balkabağı yeterince gördüm diye düşündüm 😂
Videoda detaylı anlatımı görebilirsiniz. Bence yeni başlayanlar için de oldukça açıklayıcı olmuş. Tek sorun benim için bazen aksanı anlamakta zorlandım. Bunun sebebi de aynı anda evden de ses gelmesi olabilir tabii ki.
İlk zincir aşaması dışında özellikle sayım gerektiren bir proje değil açıkçası. Hangi sırada kaç adet single crochet vardı saymadım bile. Sadece nereye kadar geleceğimi biliyordum ve o noktada ne yapmam gerektiğini. Zaten kat görüntüsünü verebilmek için 4 adet zincir ile yukarı çıkıp dönüşü de 8 adet single crochet ile yaptıktan sonra 2 zincir çekip sıradan 1 boşluk bırakmak gerekiyordu.
Bu boşluğun ardından slip stitch ile birlikte 2 zinciri birleştirdikten sonra projeyi ters çevirip o yarattığımız boşluğa 2 single crochet yaptıktan sonra normal devam ediyoruz.
Mantığı bu kadar. Aslında oldukça basit. Başlangıçta şaşırıp gerçekten de hepsi bu kadar mıymış diye düşündüğüm oldu açıkçası. Biraz oyalanarak ve videoyu da izleyerek yaklaşık 1 saatte bu yaprak da bitti. Zaten videonun içerisinde de yaprağın bir kısmını gösterip diğer kısmını aynı şekilde yapmamızı istediğinden video kısmı da oldukça kısa sürdü benim için.
Bittiğinde ise bu şekilde görünüyordu. Bu boşluk bağlamaları dıiında bütün proje single crochet ile devam ediyor. İp olarak biraz daha dolgun bir proje istediğimden dolayı 2 kat kullandım. Yani iki ipi yan yana koyarak kullandım. 5 numara tığımla birlikte biraz sert oldu diyebilirim. Belki 7 bile kullanabilirdim aslında, ama olsun o kadar da önemli bir detay değil şimdilik. Belki yastık yapmak istediğimde 3 kat ip ile birlikte 9 numara tığ kullanırım.
Bu fikir oldukça hoşuma gitti. Sadece aynı tonda tekrar bir ip bulmam gerekebilir. Ne zaman bulabilirim emin değilim. Bakalım hayat ne gösterecek.
Şimdilik bu yaprak diğer küçük projelerimi de astığım çerçeveya gidiyor. Belki biraz daha böyle küçük projeler yaptığımda bunu sizlerle paylaşırım. Biliyorsunuz, büyük projeler yapmasam da sizlerle bir şeyler paylaşmayı seviyorum. Tabii bu arka planda büyük şeylerle de uğraşmadığım anlamına gelmiyor 😉

I actually crochet myself. Well, used to. One of things I find difficult is making flat pieces like what you did. It's just difficult to make the tension even. Or did you block it?
No, I didn't block it. At least not yet. I am trying to be careful whilst crocheting, trying not to bend it too much. Also using half a mm bigger than what you are supposed to use is helpful too
