Christmas is just around the corner, December is getting closer and closer, so everyone's in the mood to decorate their homes. That's why I grabbed a piece of Christmas-themed fabric I had lying around and decided to make something to decorate my house. But what could I make? I wondered many times, until I remembered the little table we use for the landline phone. Of course! That's what I'm going to make: a pretty tablecloth for that table.

Ya se acerca la navidad, diciembre cada vez está más y más cerca, así que todos están en la onda de decorar sus hogares, por esta razón tomé un trozo de tela con motivos navideños que tenía por allí guardado y me dispuse a hacer algo para decorar mi hogar, pero ¿Qué podía hacer? me pregunté muchas veces, hasta que me llegó a la mente la mesita que usamos para poner el teléfono de casa. ¡Claro! eso es lo que voy a hacer, un lindo mantel para esa mesa.

The first thing I did was draw the circle that would be the surface of my tablecloth, and for this I used the table itself as a guide, and then I cut along the entire edge leaving the required seam allowance, as you can see in the photo on the right.

Lo primer que hice fue dibujar la circunferencia que será la superficie de mi mantel y para ello usé la propia mesa como guía, y luego recorté por todo el borde dejando el centímetro de costura de rigor, tal como pueden observar en la foto de la derecha.

Then I measured the length of the tablecloth, which in my case is 36 centimeters, from the surface to the floor, and then obviously I cut it. With this I obtained a "thick strip," so to speak, which was as wide as the entire circumference of the table and 36 centimeters long.

Después medí el largo del mantel que en mi caso son 36 centímetros, desde la superficie hasta el piso, y luego obviamente lo recorté. Con esto obtuve una "tira gruesa" por decirle de alguna manera, que de ancho tenía la medida de toda la circunferencia de la mesa y de largo 36 centímetros.

Then I simply joined the two ends with a straight stitch to create a circle, but later I added a zigzag stitch to prevent the fabric from fraying and eventually wearing out.

Luego simplemente uní los dos extremos con una costura recta para obtener una circunferencia, pero posteriormente le pasé una costura en zig zag para evitar que la tela se deshilache y eventualmente se desgaste.

Once I had the circumference, I folded it in half and then in half again. This is to find the center and make notches at the top and bottom that will later serve as sewing guides. Why? Because when I join this strip to the top part, I will need to gather the fabric of the strip, and these guides will indicate how far I should gather that fabric.

Una vez que ya tuve la circunferencia la doblé por la mitad y después nuevamente a la mitad, esto es con el objetivo de hallar el centro y elaborar unos piquetes tanto arriba como abajo que después me servirían como guía de costura ¿por qué? porque cuando yo vaya a unir esta tira con la parte superior necesitaré ruchar la tela de la tira y estas guías me van a indicar hasta donde debo ruchar esa tela.

Obviously I also did the same with the top piece of fabric, the round part, I folded it in half and then in half again until it took that cone shape.

Obviamente también hice lo mismo con la tela de arriba, la parte redondo, la doblé a la mitad y después otra vez a la mitad hasta que tomara esa forma de cono.

And of course I proceeded to make the corresponding pickets.

Y desde luego procedí a hacer los piquetes correspondientes.

Okay, when sewing, joining the top and bottom parts, I proceeded to join notches to notches and held them with a pin. As I sewed, I gathered the fabric, which will give it a little volume and a very pretty romantic style.

Ok, al momento de coser, uniendo la parte superior con la inferior procedí a unir piquetes con piquetes y los sostuve con un alfiler, al momento de ir cosiendo fui frunciendo la tela, esto le va a dar un poquito de volumen y un estilo romántico muy bonito.

Finally, I sewed the hem to give it a more sophisticated finish.

Por último cosí el ruedo para darle un acabado más sofisticado.

And this was the final result, a lovely, elegant tablecloth that is beautifully decorated simply with the Christmas motifs of the print, but the best thing about it is that it didn't take me long to make.

Y este fue el resultado final, un mantel lindo, elegante, que adorna muchísimo tan solo con los motivos navideños del estampado, pero lo mejor de todo es que no me tomó mucho tiempo en hacerlo.
