I Made Myself a New Beanie Hat (Because Cold Dey Show Me Shege 😅)

in NeedleWorkMonday2 months ago

Lately, the weather here has been very cold, especially early in the morning when I’m heading to work. I used to have this old, saggy beanie that I’d just throw on, but honestly, e don tire. The thing don lose shape and no dey even keep head warm again.

So instead of buying a new one, I said let me sew one for myself. It's really simple and I’ll show you how I did it using a pattern I drafted myself.

🧵 Materials Used

  • A stretchy fabric (I used a scrap we had at home)
  • Paper for pattern (I used an old Calendar)
  • Pen or pencil
  • Scissors ✂️
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Sewing machine or needle & thread (anyone you have)

✍️ Step 1: Make Your Pattern

  1. Draw a rectangle 22 cm wide and 25 cm tall.
  2. Find the middle of the top (11 cm mark).
  3. From that center top, measure 10 cm down and mark.
  4. From that center top, measure 2.5cm away from both sides and draw two curved lines from the top corners to meet the 10 cm point. That gives you a double-curved top.
  5. At both sides, measure 8cm down and connect it to the 2.5cm at the top to give U-shape.
  6. Cut out the full pattern.

✂️ Step 2: Cut Your Fabric

  1. Fold your fabric in half, right sides together.
  2. Place the paper pattern on the fabric and pin it down.
  3. Cut around it, you’ll have two identical pieces after opening it up (cut 2 pieces).

🧵 Step 3: Time to Sew

Take both fabric pieces, place them right sides together and sew the curved tops of both sides together leaving the center opened

Fold together to achieve the shape of the pattern

Pin every pieces in the middle cutout, and sew everything together.

Turn it inside out and boom ✨✨✨ your new beanie hat is ready!

This cold has been humbling 😂, and this old saggy hat of mine has serve its time abeg.

Sewing this new beanie didn’t take long, and it feels good to wear something I made myself. It fits better, looks better, and it actually keeps my head warm.

Thanks for reading! If you sew too or want to try making this, let me know, I’d love to see what you come up with.

Thank you @ecency for the support.

It's quite simple and easy to make with your tutorial. Can this size works for children too?
