La storia di questo lavoro inizia circa 6 anni fa quando, in edicola, uscì una rivista che trattava di uncinetto. La rivista era il primo numero di un'enciclopedia che, settimanalmente, ti forniva un gomitolo di lana da 50 grammi, una scheda che insegnavacome lavorare un determinato punto all'uncinetto, alcuni progetti per la casa, il vestiario o per i bambini e un quadrato per creare, al termine delle uscite, una coperta ad una piazza.
The story of this work begins about 6 years ago when a magazine about crochet came out at the newsstand. The magazine was the first issue of an encyclopedia that, on a weekly basis, provided you with a 50 gram ball of wool, a card that taught you how to crochet a particular stitch, some projects for the home, clothing or for the children and a square to create, at the end of the releases, a one-square blanket.
Ho iniziato a creare i vari quadretti, a contornarli di bianco e a cucirli insieme secono lo schema e le istruzioni che mi forniva la rivista.
Tre anni dopo il primo acquisto, è arrivato l'ultimo numero. Oltre allo schema completo per il montaggio dei quadratini, ci stavano anche le istruzioni per la bordatura.
I began creating the various squares, outlining them in white and sewing them together according to the pattern and instructions the magazine provided.
Three years after the first purchase, the latest issue arrived. In addition to the complete pattern for assembling the squares, there were also instructions for edging.
Avevo appena attaccato l'ultimo quadrato, quando mi sono accorta che avevo ancora un sacco di gomitoli nuovi avanzati. Il primo pensiero è stato Trasformo la coperta in una a due piazze facendone un'altra identica e la attaccando all'altra e così è stato!
Quello che state vedendo nelle foto è il risultato del mio lavoro intorno a questa coperta. Ancora non è conclusa, sono a circa metà della seconda coperta ad una piazza e poi devo realizzare il bordino esterno.
I quadretti sono tutti più o meno differenti, stessi schemi con colori diversi, vari schemi e punti di vario tipo combinati insieme.
I had just attached the last square when I realized I still had a bunch of new yarn balls left over. The first thought was I'm going to turn the blanket into a double square by making another identical one and attaching it to the other and so I did!
What you are seeing in the photos is the result of my work around this blanket. It's not finished yet, I'm about halfway through the second single-square blanket and then I need to make the outer border.
The squares are all more or less different, same patterns with different colors, various patterns and stitches combined together.
Ogni tanto, la sera dopo cena, prendo un foglio con le istruzioni, uncinetto e gomitolo e realizzo un quadratino. Il lavoro ha un effetto rilassante e credo che sia questo il motivo per cui lo sto facendo durare così tanto...
Every now and then, in the evening after dinner, I take a sheet of paper with instructions, crochet hook and ball of yarn and make a square. The work has a relaxing effect and I think that's why I'm making it so long....

Decisamente un lavoro lungo, mi hai fatto venire in mente un film "how to make an american quilt" che in italiano veniva tradotto in maniera diversa, che ovviamente non ricordo, coperta fatta a patchwork.
