Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
In this post I will be sharing with you how I made an off-shoulder gown using ankara fabrics. On the day I made this dress my work was smooth and seamless for two reasons. I was in the company of a friend and we were gisting and gisting that we talked for so many hours catching up. I love working when someone is around to keep me company and it makes my work fast. Then to add icing to the cake there was power supply throughout so I was able to use my electric industrial sewing machine which makes the work so smooth.
Materials needed
- 4 yards Ankara fabrics
- 4 yards lining
- Breast pad
- Hemming gum
- Zip
- Scissors
- Matching threads
- Tailoring chalk
- Pin
Step by step
This gown is fitted at the upper part and it flare out from the hip area creating a stunning silhouette structure.
This information needs to be noted before we proceed with the measuring and cutting of the fabrics. The gown is a long gown sonwe will take the full body measurements from shoulder to foot and also take other measurements like bust, waist, hips, shoulder width and length, and armhole.
The cutting process will begin from the upper part of the gown, so I start by curving out the breast cup and I made use of 16" for the upper part which is 2" below the underbust.
The front part of the upper part of the gown has three pieces and the back pieces are four.
We will aim at achieving six pieces for the skirt part so you divide 42" (hip measurement) by 6 which will be 7". This means we will use 7" to cut out the desired six pieces.
Note that the fabric is onfold, so we'd divide the 7" by 2 which will give us 3.5" and add extra 0.75" seam allowance.
Now, we will take 4.25" from the waist down to the full gown length. Then the next thing you will do is to make use of your tailoring chalk to rule a line that will connect the dot.
Then at the bottom of the full gown length take 6.5" outward which means you will now have an overall of 4.25" plus 6.5" which will give us 10.75".
Now, connect the 10.75" to the kneel part where you marked 4.25" and it will give you a funnel-like shape, cut it out and create four copies totaling five panels. On the sixth panel make provision for your zipper and cut it into two to divide the zipper panel into two. All our panel will be total of 7 panels.
Next, cut your linning and join all pieces together. After, attach it to the upper part and shape the dress accordingly.
Then cut a long strip of the ankara fabric and use it to make a strap on the two shoulders.
Next, give the dress a good press by flattening all the seams very well and do all other finishings like overlocking and hemming.
Your stunning gown is ready.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
