Hello wonderful people of needle work community and welcome to another inspiration recreation episode with your one and only. At this point, I think it would be only right if I take a moment to make a shout out for growth.
I remember this time last year when I made a Barbie themed dress for my sister, back then I thought to I could never beat this can I, and this year looking back I am certain that I have made tangible growth in my sewing game and now I am certain that by this time next year I will be better than this. For this I raise a toast 🥂 to growth and to y’all for your encouragement and a bigger shout out to the founder(s) of this community for giving this little girl a platform to express herself.
Without wasting much of your time, let me take you through the journey of how I achieved this dress for my sister 19th birthday but before I do, I feel the need to explain why I themed this dress as a “Barbie inspired dress” as it was not inspired by any Barbie character or any of their actual dresses.
Aside from the obvious color of pink, if you followed my post on how I made her dress last year, you will realize that my sister is sort of a pink freak thus I nicknamed her Barbie
This dress may be a recreation of another dress I found on pintresss however, every tiny intricate details especially the color, was inspired by her enchanting personality.
Lastly, why I used “Last” well this is because this is the last pink dress my sister will be using for her birthday shoot I think three years of constantly using pink, I have had just about enough so yeah we disagreed to agree that this is the last pink dress she will be using because by next year she will be 20 so we plan on doing something totally different.
In making this dressed all I used were:
- 3 yards of crepe rose pink fabric
- 1 yard of baby pink crepe fabric
- Matching threads
- Cutting paper
- small quantity of soft wardon for the bow
- My curve ruler
Measurements I used:
• Length
• Round Bust
• Round Under bust
• “ “ waist
• “ “ hips
• Knee point
• Nipple to nipple
• Bust point
• Under bust point
• Waist line
• Hips point
I started by drafting a bustier pattern on my pattern paper with a side bust dart and I joined the pattern together eliminating the bustier dart since the dress is sort of a corporate wear. I eliminated all dart except for the side dart.
This dress might look difficult but trust me it is the simplest dress for any person who how as simple as an idea on how to make a dress I think the challenging part is making the trail but since my sister didn’t want anything excessive and she’s very small in stature, I could make use of just three yards.
