Hello, dear creative friends on Hive, I hope you are all having a great day.
Who else feels that pure joy seeing themselves or loved ones mark or celebrate their birthday? Birthdays are a once-in-a-year celebration and worth celebrating, here you get to go all out and make someone feel like a queen or king hehe. And, I'm all about making my friends and family feel special on their big day. In my own little way of celebrating with my friends and loved ones, I always make sure I sew a new dress for them. It started as a small obligation, and somehow I have managed to keep this tradition going.
Today, I will be sharing with you the making process of this beautiful sequin dress I made for my aunty who will be clocking 40 soon, I already made her an elegant kimono ankara jacket, and knowing how she loves sparkling dresses, I thought to add this sequin dress to it, making use of about 2 yards of sequin materials, golden fringes and applique.
I want her to look like a queen on her day, and I'm certain she will love this sequin dress as well. So without further ado, let's get right into the making process.

Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by drafting the upper side of the dress, using a bustier pattern, as this pattern helps contour the bust area, giving it a well-fitted and elegant look. I also cut out the lining, the same as the main fabric
I also cut out the back pattern using a basic back pattern
Continuing, I joined the front pattern pieces together, and also turned the neckline and sides using the lining fabric. I sewed in the fringe around the extended arm side.
I held in the darts on the back side and turned it as well, using the lining fabric pattern
For the lower part of the dress, I cut out a straight skirt pattern
Then joined the upper front side to the lower side of the dress
I also joined the upper backside to the lower part of the dress and sewed in a zipper to close it up as well.
- Finally, I sewed the sides of the dress, and tacked the holden applique to the waist area of the dress front, and that completes the making process of this beautiful sequin dress, you should see how it sparkles in the dark. I hope my aunt loves her new birthday dress, just as much as I love it too. For me, it's not just about making a dress; it's a celebration of her life,
