Happy New Week, dear creative hivers. I'm glad I made it to another needlework Monday. I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
I will be sharing with us another interesting sewing project I made last week, thankfully, I finally sorted my accommodation issues, after several disappointments, and thought I had enough time to move since I didn't have any urgent sewing for the week, so I thought, only for my friend to reach out to me on Monday surprising me about her traditional marriage, which was celebrated on Sunday, yesterday.
I was so happy to hear the good news, and then I realized I had less than 7 days to make her traditional attire, according to her it was shocking to her as well that she would have to plan her wedding in just a week, She got her lace fabric on Tuesday in the colour red, a traditional inspired colour for Edo brides, and before I could complete the moving process it was Thursday already, I felt stressed, nervous and doubted myself a bit, If I could meet up finishing the dress before saturday, I had no time to organize my new apartment, and just left things as they were, I just made sure my sewing machine and other materials I would need to make this dress was sorted. The making process ideally started on Friday, that's right, it was indeed one of the most difficult and shortest periods to make not just any dress, but a bride's traditional attire.
I made conscious effort to stay calm, eat well, drink lots of water, take little break to stretch, and back to work again, I worked on this dress throughout Friday and the night as well because we had to fit the dress on Saturday, incase there was any needed adjustment, and also drape the lace wrapper at the end of it all, I'm happy she made a beautiful bride as her beautiful dress fits so perfectly.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process
Materials used
- Lace fabric
- Mikado fabric
- Satin
- Zipper
- Boning
- Eyelets
- Skin net etc
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by drafting the pattern for the upper side of the dress on paper before transferring it to the fabric, it's a bustier pattern with skin net yoke and mikado fabric for the snatched waistline,
- Joining the patterns together, I sewed bonings to the waistline and bust satin lining, and also padded the main fabric bust area.
- For the lower part of the dress, I used a straight skirt pattern
- To add more stylish details, I beaded the waist area, added applique to the chest area, and also made 3d floral patterns,
Finishing up the glam look with a traditional hairdo of the Edo tribe in Nigeria, she made a beautiful bride. It was an interesting day, styling my friend for her big day as she says I do to her long-time friend and lover.
