So what are your plans for today? Going out with friends? Or spending the day with that special someone? For me, I will be spending every moment of today with my family, there is that special feeling of happiness one gets crossing over to a new year with one's family, all in good health and happiness, I feel blessed to be in this moment, and I pray the happiness extends throughout the year and beyond,
Yesterday, I was forced to make a quick last-year sewing project for my favorite aunt, I never knew some people had a tradition of crossing over to a new year adorned in a new dress, she believes it brings good luck and makes the year refreshing, well, everyone can believe in whatever they feel is good as long as it works for them and doesn't cause any harm to anyone. I know my aunt to be a strong believer and letting her down might make her feel uneasy, so I accepted her request and got to work, also because it wasn't a tedious style to make. Just that she had very little quantity of the ankara fabric, so we had no choice but to pair it with a plain fabric, and this was the beautiful result.
Materials used
- Ankara Fabric
- Plain black crepe fabric
- Zipper
- Matching colored thread
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by cutting out the pattern on paper so I could easily transfer it to the cut-out fabric,
- It's a basic gown pattern, I just mixed the ankara and plain fabric, the front pattern is open in the middle, as this is where the zipper would be sewed to, while the back is on fold
- Next, I joined the pattern pieces together
- I continued by joining the front and back by the shoulders, piped the neckline using the Ankara fabric cut on a bias strip
- I joined the sides, hemmed the dress, and sewed in the zipper.
- Finally, for the sleeves, I cut out a puffy sleeve pattern, which has a band made out of the ankara fabric.
And here is the beautiful final look, glad I was able to come through for my aunt at the last minute, as she ushered the new year in happily with an unwavering faith.
So what are those New Year traditions you've seen people do or partake in yourself, do share with us.
