Upgrading My Sewing Skills with Cupped Corset Technique

Happy New week dear Hivers, I pray this week brings us new fortune.

It's another exciting new week to share our creative needlework, and today I will be sharing with you how I made a corset blouse. One thing I love about sewing is how we are forced to upgrade this skill every time, because trust me, a technique new and better technique than the one you are used to always surfaces, and it's either you remain in your comfort zone and become outdated or you upgrade and stay on trend.

Knowing myself, I knew it wouldn't take long before I jumped on the new method of how to make a perfect cupped corset, so when a friend of mine requested a cupped corset blouse and skirt as a wedding guest outfit, i knew it was time, and after using this method i'm sure not going back, unless of course a better method comes up.

The process was not only easier and stress-free, and the result was amazing as you can see.

Materials Used

  • Purple coloured crepe fabric

  • purple satin as base or lining

  • Chantilly lace fabric

  • Boning

  • Matching coloured thread

Cutting and Sewing Process

  • Using my pattern paper, I drafted the cupped pattern, and joined them with a cellotape

  • I used the cupped pattern to draft the corset bodice pattern

  • Then transferred the cut-out pattern to the fabric for both the front and back

  • Next, I marked out the lines where I will be sewing the boning to

  • Then I cased and sewed the boning on the bodice

  • I also cut out the chantilly lace, same as the bodice pattern and placed it on the main crepe fabric

  • Afterwards, I joined the cupped part on both sides of the bust area

  • I also repeated the process on the lining fabric

  • Finally, I turned the main bodice fabric with its lining, and piped the base of the blouse, and that completes the making process of the corset blouse.

The result is so beautiful, this isn't the final look though, as I will still add sleeves and some other attachments, let me not spill all details out yet, I will surely update you on the final look of this outfit.
