Hello Hive

Mondays are often a relaxing day for us in the community. It's true that Mondays are the most busy day of the week, starting with resuming work and the race to catch up with time and deadlines but in all of this our community members here still find time to relax and blog about their creative activities..
Is it relaxing to settle in after work to some beautiful sites online that you can feed your eyes on?
This is how it works here in our own community

For my project this week I took my time to see my first ever layered dress something I love to call a Caribbean pattern. Many a times I shy away from sewing these type of outfits as it takes a lot of time and it's very demanding to sew the layers of the outfit
I didnt have a choice this time around but to sew the design in the way we were asked to do as it is the choir uniform for our independence day celebration.

At every independence people gather to pray and intercede for the country as we are almost totally helpless against some corrupt leader who have twisted the fortune of the country. Our county is rich in agriculture and mineral resources, yet a lot of people have been impoverished due to poor governance and management of resources. Now that the situations are getting scarier with insecurities from every direction we are faced with the challenge to protect our lives as the government isn't helping matter much.

We took the time to celebrate and appreciate God for how far he has watched over us and we plead for divine intervention over our country. At independence all over the world, people love and pray for the government, military and for peace in their home we hope that these supplications will not go unanswered.

For the making of my dress I got I had cut out a basic front and back block here

Which I then use to equally cut the linings in the same manner

After which I added some stay and stitched the different pieces together here which I had equally sewn a busy and waist dart to it.

Next I got a zipper and attached it here.

Next I took the measurements again to be sure of basic fitting

Before proceeding to cut the sleeves using a semi flare method. I attached the sleeve to the dress with an elastic gathers at the hemming of the sleeve.

The final and difficult steps was the process of cutting and sewing the gathers. I had cut 3 different layered of the fabric with unequal width which I then carefully pleated one layer unto the other

The final step was when I attached the layered flare to the upper bodice and the the dress became a beautiful piece.

The dress was stressful to make but beautiful to wear. I had thought that I was going to wear the outfit with this fabric cap I had sewn a previous year to mark independence but our choir members preferred it with to go with our other fascinator.
