Lovely done and how wonderful the client loved the design you already had on your mind (and enjoyed crocheting). THe last weeks I only knitted but I start to miss crochet really badly and my fingers are itching to start a new project (which I should not, as I already have a half finished crochet shawl waiting in a box). I could imagine a colourful doily for Easter ... (ahhh I have to stop myself :-D)
I feel you. I am actually in the middle of crocheting a small curtain when I got the message about the doilies.
It is true, needleworkers does take a break from one project by starting on another one. That's just hw we roll, I guess. Lol
