A UNIQUE CROCHET PIECE

Hi, guys! How has crafting been? I’d love to know what you’ve been working on. I recently made a crochet scarf fir the first time, but it wasn’t a regular crochet scarf. It had pockets!

So a friend reached out to me with a sketch that I did not understand😅. He then went ahead to explain that it was a scarf with pockets at both ends. After the explanation, I could understand what he’d drawn. He sent me pictures to get the idea, then I sent mine too so he could choose a particular stitch and design. After we settled on a price, I got working. That same day, I ordered the materials. He wanted it in grey.

The stitch we settled for was the half double crochet slip stitch ribbing where I start by doing a half double crochet but then I finish by doing a slip stitch instead of the regular way you’d finish a half double crochet. He wanted it thick and I knew that the two strands of Yeye yarn I usually use would be thick especually with a ribbing stitch, however I didnyknow if it would be thick enough. I decided to go with the two strands.

Do you know that after 3 days of crocheting, I started all over again?! I was still unsure of the thickness so I tried 3 strands and decided to go with it🤦🏽‍♀️. It was so sad to see my three days of woek go to waste. I knew I’d have avoided all of that if I’d done a swatch but stubborn me dis not do that. Anyways, I got ill in the following days and didn’t crochet for 3 days. Thank God I had more than enough time for the project so I wasn’t worried.

After my illness, I was back stronger and faster than before.

Soon, I’d finished the body. It was time to add the pockets.

I made horizontal ribbing unlike the body of the scarf that was vertical.

And I added buttons too! A medium-sized white button at the top of each pocket.

The last thing that I did to complete it was to add the fringe at both ends. What do you think about the final look?

Apparently, I got way too much yarn so I had 5 balls at the end of the project, excluding the one I used for the two-strand scarf that I dumped before started again. I used 10 balls altogether and a 4.0mm hook.

Here’s the look from my customer’s cam.

Is this something you would get, and in what colour would you make yours?

I love HDC slip stitch ribbing, it has a very knit look!
