🇪🇸 ~ La semana pasada no tuve tiempo de compartir una continuación de más piezas terminadas de mi proyecto Cosplay de Sailor Moon (que estoy guardando especialmente para publicar en esta comunidad), he estado ocupada cuidando a mi gata que recién dio a luz 2 hermosos gatitos 🐱 🍼
Por eso hoy quiero compartir un proyecto/comisión que paso por varias correcciones antes de perfeccionarse: Un Columpio para niños hecho con lona y tablitas de madera de pino 👶 💕
🇺🇸 ~ Last week I didn't have time to share a continuation of more finished pieces of my Cosplay project of Sailor Moon (which I am saving especially to post in this community), I have been busy taking care of my cat who just gave birth to 2 beautiful kittens 🐱 🍼
So today I want to share a project/commission that went through several edits before being perfected: A swing for children made of thick fabric and pine wood planks 👶 💕

Este proyecto fue una comisión de TepichiKids (tienda de productos infantiles que me comisiona parte de su stock); todos los materiales me los proporciono la dueña de la tienda, así como las referencias del diseño/aspecto que quería para este columpio.
Este diseño de columpio para bebes es básicamente una cruz, consta de dos laterales, un espaldar, y una pieza frontal más delgada.
✔ El espaldar mide 37 cm de ancho y 55 cm de ancho.
✔ El asiento y los laterales en total, son una pieza de 25 cm de ancho, y 127 cm de largo.
✔ Y la parte frontal, tiene 17 cm de ancho, y 60 cm de largo.
This project was a commission from TepichiKids (children's products store that commissions me part of their stock); all the materials were provided to me by the owner of the store, as well as the references of the design/look she wanted for this swing.
This baby swing design is basically a cross, consisting of two sides, a backrest, and a thinner front piece.
✔ The backrest measures 37 cm wide and 55 cm wide.
✔ The seat and sides in total, are one piece 25 cm wide, and 127 cm long.
✔ And the front, is 17 cm wide, and 60 cm long.
Después de recortar estas 3 piezas principales, hice un dobladillo doble en ambas caras de sus lados más largos, los sostuve con los alfileres, y los cosí a mano con una puntada grande y suelta.
En esta etapa del proceso note que el material aunque es resistente, tiene una fibra muy abierta que no me parece del todo confiable, por eso recomendaría agregar en esta etapa un forro sintético para darle un plus de resistencia (pero eso no era lo que pedía el cliente).
After cutting out these 3 main pieces, I double hemmed both sides of their longer sides, pinned them together, and hand stitched them with a large, loose stitch.
At this stage of the process I noticed that the material, although resistant, has a very open grain that I don't find completely reliable, that's why I would recommend adding a synthetic lining at this stage to give it a plus of resistance (but that's not what the client asked for).
Antes de avanzar, coloque todas las piezas en sus posiciones provisionalmente, y medí superficialmente las tablitas de madera para comprobar que la tela no coincidiera con los agujeros por donde pasarían las cuerdas.
✔ Laterales - 23 cm de largo.
✔ Frontal y la de espaldar - 34,5 cm de largo.
Before moving forward, I placed all the pieces in their positions provisionally, and superficially measured the wooden planks to check that the fabric did not coincide with the holes through which the ropes would pass.
✔ Sides - 23 cm long.
✔ Front and back - 34.5 cm long.
Al comprobar que el dobladillo estaba bien hecho, cerré los extremos de las 4 piezas formando los canales por los que pasarían las tablas. Cada canal debe medir 20 cm.
When I checked that the hem was well done, I closed the ends of the 4 pieces forming the channels through which the boards would pass. Each channel should measure 20 cm.
Durante la elaboración de este columpio todo en lo que podía pensar era en las palabras “seguro y resistente”.
Estaba muy nerviosa porque aunque el control de calidad y la prueba de su resistencia NO me correspondía (el control de calidad le corresponde a los dueños de la tienda), es imposible no preocuparte.
During the making of this swing all I could think about were the words "safe and sturdy."
I was very nervous because although the quality control and testing of its strength was NOT my responsibility (quality control belongs to the store owners), it's impossible not to worry.
En esta etapa del proceso pensé que sería bueno aplicar mucho pegamento UHU antes de coser las partes, para darle resistencia a la tela porque por su textura, tenía muchos nervios que con el peso y el tiempo se rasgara.
Francamente, este material es muy bonito, grueso y agradable al tacto, pero NO lo recomiendo porque existen mejores opciones en el mercado.
At this stage of the process I thought it would be good to apply a lot of UHU glue before sewing the parts, to give strength to the fabric because due to its texture, I was very nervous that with the weight and time it would tear.
Frankly, this material is very nice, thick and pleasant to the touch, but I do NOT recommend it because there are better options in the market.
Algo gracioso sobre este columpio es que el diseño PARECE muy simple, pero la verdad es que toma muchas horas fabricarlo, porque hay que medir constantemente todo una y otra vez para comprobar que los 4 lados se compensen perfectamente:

Something funny about this swing is that the design LOOKS very simple, but the truth is that it takes many hours to make, because you have to constantly measure everything over and over again to check that the 4 sides are perfectly offset:

Este es el tipo de proyectos que no haría por mi cuenta, al principio creí que me superaría, pero después de esa primera experiencia me siento con más seguridad y confianza, incluso recomendaría a otros con un nivel intermedio de experiencia o habilidad de costura en fabricar este columpio para sus niños.
This is the kind of project I wouldn't do on my own, at first I thought I would be over my head, but after that first experience I feel more confident and secure, I would even recommend others with an intermediate level of sewing experience or skill in making this swing for their children.
Francamente no estoy acostumbrada a seguir instrucciones de terceros cuando genero patrones, pero para este caso en especial, seguí las indicaciones de mis clientes (ellos me dijeron el alto, ancho y largo que querían como resultado para el columpio).
Como yo no tengo experiencia con esta clase de artículos, no vi durante el proceso de elaboración que obviamente las medidas eran muy grandes para contener de manera segura a un bebe o niño pequeño.
Frankly, I'm not used to following instructions from third parties when generating patterns, but for this particular case, I followed my clients' indications (they told me the height, width and length they wanted as a result for the swing).
Since I have no experience with this kind of item, I didn't see during the making process that obviously the measurements were too large to safely contain a baby or toddler.
Un tiempo después, felizmente generamos un segundo modelo mejorado, más estrecho, con un cojín de altura para estabilizarlo y no solo un cojín interior suave.
Some time later, we happily generated a second improved model, narrower, with a height cushion to stabilize it and not just a soft inner cushion.
Cada vez que me comisionan estos columpios, siempre encuentro algo que mejorar. También entendí por qué son tan costosos. Parecen sencillos de hacer pero al menos en mi corta experiencia, no lo son, ¡toma mucho tiempo hacerlos! 😅
Every time I get these swings commissioned, I always find something to improve. I also understood why they are so expensive. They look simple to make but at least in my short experience, they are not, it takes a lot of time to make them! 😅
Estos columpios han recibido muy buenos comentarios; aprendí que sin quererlo, podemos subestimarnos, y que frente a las cosas que parecen “difíciles”, lo mejor es simplemente intentarlo (con responsabilidad y sinceridad).
Condicionar lo que escogemos hacer a estar 100% seguros de que todo va a quedar perfecto es contraproducente, porque NO podemos saber si somos capaces de hacer algo hasta que lo intentamos, especialmente si se trata de proyectos manuales.

These swings have received very good feedback; I learned that we can inadvertently underestimate ourselves, and that when faced with things that seem "difficult", the best thing to do is just try (responsibly and honestly).
Conditioning what we choose to do on being 100% sure that everything is going to be perfect is counterproductive, because we can NOT know if we are capable of doing something until we try, especially if it is a handmade project.
