The wrap top is an elegant fit for every woman because it does a good job of synching in the waist. It's effortlessly stylish and I always wanted to make one myself. I wanted a wrap top with a peplum attached and then exaggerated sleeves for that extra oomph. I made use of fabric from my leftover stash, combining two different fabrics together.
Here's how I made the wrap top
- I started by drafting the wrap top pattern directly onto the folded fabric. Marking out and folding in 5inches allowance for the wrap on the front piece and then marked out by measurements. I did a basic bodice pattern using my measurements for the back piece.
- I then cut out the front and back pieces. There's one back piece and two front pieces.
- Next, I drafted a balloon sleeve pattern on paper and then placed the paper on fabric to cut. I cut two sleeves.
- A replica of all pieces so far were cut on black lining fabric to line the insides. I also cut a 2inches belt and a 1inch belt for the top.
- For my peplum, I made a full flare peplum of 10inches length.
- The lining fabric was then joined to the fabric on the front and back pieces right after fixing my darts and two belts.
- Both front and back pieces were joined at the shoulder, fabric to fabric and lining to lining.
- I sewed in the sleeves and both side seams of the top, lining to lining and fabric to fabric to give a neat finish on the inside.
- At this point, the peplum was attached to the rest of the top and hemmed neatly at the bottom.
...And we're done! Not bad for a first attempt if I say so myself.
