I'm one of those people who keeps a lot of clothes that I no longer wear because my daughters have grown out of them, because they're out of style, or even because they've worn out somewhere. I always think about recycling them, but eventually I find myself surprised to find I've accumulated more than I should.
Today I decided to start making some things with them. In this case, it's a black and white plaid shirt that I really liked the way my daughter wore it, but she stopped using it because it had ripped in some places. So I used the fabric and made a Strappy Top with Gathered Ruffles at the Hem. I'll show you... Welcome.
Soy de esas que guardan muchas ropas que ya no se usan porque ya mis hijas crecieron y no les sirven de tallas, porque pasaron de moda, o incluso si se deterioraron en alguna parte. Siempre pensando en que tienen la posibilidad de reciclarlas, pero eventualmente me sorprendo viendo que he acumulado más de lo debido.
Hoy me decidí a empezar a hacer algunas cosas con ellas. En este caso es una camisa de cuadros blancos y negros, que me gustaba mucho como le quedaba de mi hija, pero dejó de utilizar porque se había roto en algunas partes. Así que aproveché la tela y realicé un Top de Tiras y Volantes Fruncidos en el ruedo, te enseño... Bienvenidos.
With the shirt clean, I proceeded to remove the buttons using this tool, which those of us who like to sew are very familiar with. This way, I removed all the buttons that were in good condition and saved them. I also cut each piece, leaving only the unsewn, undamaged fabric.
With the pieces prepared, it's great to iron them to define the flat shape and trace the pattern or cut directly into it.
Con la camisa limpia, procedí a retirar los botones utilizando esta herramienta que conocemos muy bien las que nos gusta coser; de esta forma saqué todos los botones que estaban en buen estado y los guardé. También corté cada pieza, dejando únicamente la tela sin costuras y en buen estado.
Ya con las piezas preparadas, está genial que se planchen para definir bien la forma plana y trazar el patrón o cortar directamente en ella.

I didn't actually make a pattern; I just used another shirt as a reference and simply cut directly from the fabric, considering only the width and armholes, then the top and bottom were as I liked.
I cut a full piece for the front, and another identical piece for the back, which I cut in half. I also cut strips for the straps, and a slightly thicker one for the ruffle at the hem.
Yo realmente no hice ningún patrón, solo tomé de referencia otra camisa y simplemente corté directamente en la tela considerando solo el ancho y las sisas, luego arriba y abajo fue a mi gusto.
Corté una pieza entera para el delantero, y otra pieza igual para el posterior que corté por la mitad. También corté tiras para los tirantes, y una un poco más gruesa para el volante del ruedo.

For the straps, it's very easy. I placed the approximately 4cm strips of fabric facing each other in the center and then folded them to form the bias tapes and the straps themselves. It's imperative that you iron them to keep their shape.
It's worth noting that, since I didn't have much fabric, I couldn't cut these strips on the bias, which would have been ideal. I had to cut them straight. Fortunately, my design didn't necessarily require these strips to fold over much, so they worked. I also sewed them together to create a single strip, and I set this aside.

Another thing I prepared earlier was the thickest strip for the gathered ruffle. On one edge, I made two folds to create a neat hem. I hemmed the other edge with a sewing machine, then pulled one of the threads to gather this strip. It's one of the easiest things to do in sewing. I set this aside, and now, with all the pieces prepared, I'll start making the top.
Otra cosa que preparé antes fue la tira más gruesa, para el volante fruncido. En uno de los bordes hice dos doblez para formar un ruedo bien prolijo. Y el otro borde le pasé una basta a máquina de coser, luego halé uno de los hilos para ir frunciendo esta tira. Es una de las cosas más fáciles de hacer en costura. I close the other side, and something I really like to do is to backstitch in specific areas where you'd expect to exert more force. This is to secure the seams.

I loved the result. This shirt has a second chance. It's a simple design, but with the gathered ruffle detail at the hem, it looks very special and fun.
What can you wear it with? Whatever you want—jeans, shorts, a skirt—it goes perfectly with everything, and it goes with casual or informal outfits, depending on how you combine it.
El resultado me encantó, esta camisa tiene una segunda oportunidad, y es un diseño sencillo pero con el detalle del volante fruncido en el ruedo, queda muy especial y divertida.
¿Con qué se lo puede poner? Con lo que quieras, un jean, un short, una falda, queda perfecto con todo y en outfits informales o casuales, depende de cómo lo combines.
