Greetings to all. A few days ago I made a post talking about some anime openings that have both good animation and a good song and I thought I would do the same but with endings. As many of you may know, endings are characterized by having a softer animation and in many occasions they use static images or some special effects, so they can't be judged in the same way as openings and they have their own criteria for it. In this case, I had a hard time deciding on some of them, but I decided to take the first ones that I remembered have a good quality in every sense.
Un saludo a todos. Hace unos días hice un post hablando sobre algunos Opening de anime que tienen tanto buena animación como una buena canción y pensé en hacer lo mismo pero con Endings. Como muchos sabrán, los ending se caracterizan por tener una animación más suave y en muchas ocasiones se usan imágenes estáticas o algunos efectos especiales por lo que no se les puede juzgar de la misma forma que los opening y poseen su propio criterio para ello. En este caso, me costó decidirme por algunos, pero decidí tomar los primeros que recordé que poseen una buena calidad en todo sentido.
In no particular order, I will begin:
Sin ningún orden en particular, comenzaré:
1) Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus - Ending
Kuroshitsuji is a very well known anime and manga or at least has a strong fan base, I consider myself a follower of this story since many years ago even since the first anime came out (which is half canon and half non-canon). The openings are very good but the endings usually fail either because of the music or the animation with the exception of this one which was used for the third season (second if you count it from the canon perspective, since the second one is completely non-canon and can't even be counted as a filler) which is called "Book of Circus". This ending is drastically different from the opening as all the focus is on one of the main characters, Ciel Phantomhive.
The ending begins with stained glass windows shattering, each crystal falling on the floor and into a bathtub. From this point I consider this to be the real message, showing the three facets of Ciel. Ciel's clothes appear on the floor, but judging by the clothes and the order in which they are, they indicate that he was undressing, why do I think this is important? Because the clothes he is taking off are the clothes he forms as a count, that is, he has taken off his facet as the great "Count Phantomhive", the face that the world sees, how everyone respects him and how they refer to him, notice that you see his top hat, cloak and staff at the beginning. Lastly you see his two rings lying around, those rings are his family rings, the fact that they are there is a way of saying that he has now taken off the fact that he is a Phantomhive and just being "Ciel". These rings are picked up by Sebastian without using his gloves. We then see Ciel enter a bathtub filled with a black liquid which I assume is a reference to the "corruption" and "depravity" that Ciel was subjected to when he was kidnapped when his family was killed, sold to the black market and given to a cult, I believe this because they emphasize that you can see the mark the cult left on his back with cast iron, you can see how his hand gently releases the edge of the bathtub to go deeper into the darkness and then the important part, his eyes, when his head is almost completely under the black water you can see that he does not have the pentagram in his right eye indicating that Ciel is the one that was in the middle of the darkness, Sebastian then sinks his head into the water.
Kuroshitsuji es un anime y manga muy conocido o por lo menos tiene una fuerte fan base, me considero seguidor de esta historia desde hace muchísimos años incluso desde que salió el primer anime (el cual es mitad canon y mitad no-canon). Los opening son muy buenos pero en los ending suelen fallar sea por la música o la animación con la excepción de este que fue usado para la tercera temporada (segunda si se cuenta desde la perspectiva canon, ya que la segunda es completamente no-canon y ni como relleno se puede contar) la cual toma por nombre “Book of Circus”. Este ending es drásticamente diferente al opening ya que todo el enfoque es sobre uno de los protagonistas, Ciel Phantomhive.
El ending comienza con unos vitrales rompiéndose, cayendo cada cristal en el suelo y dentro de una bañera. Desde este punto considero que es el verdadero mensaje, mostrar a las tres facetas de Ciel. Aparece la ropa de Ciel tirada en el suelo, pero a juzgar por las prendas y en el orden en que están, indican que estaba desvistiéndose ¿por qué creo que esto es importante? Porque la ropa que se está quitando es la ropa forma como conde, es decir, se ha quitado su faceta como el gran “conde Phantomhive”, la cara que el mundo ve, como todos lo respetan y como se refieren a él, noten que se ve su sombrero de copa, la capa y el bastón al inicio. Por último se ven sus dos anillos tirados, esos anillos son los anillos de su familia, el hecho de que estén ahí es una forma de decir que ahora se ha quitado el hecho de ser un Phantomhive y solo ser “Ciel”. Estos anillos son recogidos por Sebastian sin usar sus guantes. Luego vemos a Ciel entrar en una bañera llena de un líquido negro que asumo es una referencia a la “corrupción” y “depravación” a la cual Ciel fue sometido al ser secuestrado cuando mataron a su familia, lo vendieron al mercado negro y entregado a un culto, esto lo creo porque hacen énfasis en que se vea la marca que el culto le dejó en su espalda con hierro fundido, se ve como su mano gentilmente suelta el borde la bañera para adentrarse más a esa oscuridad y luego la parte importante, sus ojos, cuando su cabeza está casi completamente bajo las aguas negras se puede ver que no posee el pentagrama en el ojo derecho indicando que ese Ciel es el que estaba en medio de la oscuridad, Sebastian entonces hunde su cabeza en las aguas.
Sebastian is seen walking down the hallway with a smile and carrying some white towels, we then see that Ciel has come out of the bathtub leaving a trail of black stains and blood, I guess it is in reference to the sacrifices and losses he has had for years. Sebastian then completely covers with the towel that Ciel bathed in darkness and like the demon that he is, Sebastian prevents the light from reaching him, using even his own body. The darkness is disappearing from Ciel's body to then leave in sight the pentagram in his right eye, showing the Ciel who has used all that darkness as a tool to achieve his goals, his revenge, Sebastian embraces him showing the desire he has to devour that pure soul who has seen so much despair.
The song is also very good, the singer calls herself AKIRA and has an androgynous style both in her voice and appearance. I wanted to place this ending because of the great meaning it has and for being of that group that doesn't use static images.
Sebastian es visto caminando por el pasillo con una sonrisa y llevando unas toallas blancas, vemos entonces que Ciel ha salido de la bañera dejando un rastro de manchas negras y sangre, supongo que es en referencia a los sacrificios y pérdidas que ha tenido por años. Sebastian entonces cubre completamente con la toalla a ese Ciel bañado en oscuridad y como el demonio que es, Sebastian evita que la luz lo alcance, usando incluso su propio cuerpo. La oscuridad va desapareciendo del cuerpo de Ciel para dejar luego a la vista el pentagrama en su ojo derecho, mostrando al Ciel que ha usado toda esa oscuridad como una herramienta para lograr sus objetivos, su venganza, Sebastian lo abraza mostrando el deseo que tiene de devorar a esa alma tan pura que ha visto tanta desesperación.
La canción es también muy buena, la cantante se llama a sí misma AKIRA y tiene un estilo andrógino tanto en su voz como en aspecto. Quise colocar este ending por el gran significado que tiene y por ser de ese grupo que no usa imágenes estáticas.
2) Fruits Basket (2019) - Ending 4
This is one of the most special series I have seen in my life, at first glance it looks like the typical Shoujo series with dramatic romances but in reality it is not like that, well, just a little bit. This series concentrates on giving us reasons to cry in each chapter with the messages it has, it touches topics from love, family, friendship, personal growth, goals, loneliness, it is impossible that there is not something in it that you do not identify with. It uses elements of the Chinese zodiac signs along with everyday elements to create a wonderful story. In 2019 a faithful adaptation of the manga in its entirety came out consisting of three seasons with five openings and five endings, among all those endings there was one that I found fascinating. This ending, "Eden" from the band MONKEY MAJIK, is of just images showing each character in the series with beautiful artwork for each, but it's not as simple as that.
Each character is accompanied by a flower or plant and a specific clothing style, corresponding to a meaning for the character. I don't know much about the language of flowers and plants, but from what I've researched, the animation studio placed each thing in great detail to represent personality in some, the situation others are going through during that season and symbolism. The ones that stand out the most in my opinion, are the first one: Kyo, who represents the Cat (yes, in the Chinese zodiac there is no Cat but in the series they explain it in detail), if you notice he is surrounded by some bamboos but these have him "locked" as in a prison, this is reference to what is revealed in this season SPOILER but the bearers of the Cat are locked up when they reach adulthood. His hand is outstretched towards the only source of light there is.
Esta es una de las series más especiales que he visto en mi vida, a simple vista parece la típica serie Shoujo con romances dramáticos pero en realidad no es así, bueno, solo un poco. Esta serie se concentra en darnos razones para llorar en cada capítulo con los mensajes que posee, toca temas desde el amor, la familia, la amistad, el crecimiento personal, las metas, la soledad, es imposible que no haya algo en ella con lo que no te identifiques. Usa elementos de los signos zodiacales chinos junto con elementos cotidianos para crear una maravillosa historia. En el 2019 salió una adaptación fiel al manga en su totalidad consistiendo de tres temporadas con cinco openings y cinco endings, entre todos esos endings hubo uno que me pareció fascinante. Este ending, “Eden”, de la banda MONKEY MAJIK, es de solo imágenes mostrando a cada personaje de la serie con un hermoso artwork para cada uno, pero no es tan simple como eso.
Cada personaje está acompañado de una flor o una planta y un estilo de vestimenta específico, correspondiendo a un significado para el personaje. No sé mucho del lenguaje de las flores y plantas, pero por lo que he investigado, el estudio de animación colocó con mucho detalle cada cosa para representar personalidad en algunos, la situación que están viviendo otros durante esa temporada y un simbolismo. Los que más destacan a mi parecer, son el primero: Kyo, que representa al Gato (si, en el zodiaco chino no hay un Gato pero en la serie lo explican con detalle), si se dan cuenta él está rodeado por unos bambús pero estos lo tienen “encerrado” como en una prisión, esto es referencia a lo que se revela en esta temporada SPOILER pero los portadores del Gato son encerrados al alcanzar la adultez. Su mano está extendida hacia la única fuente de luz que hay.
Later we see Kyoko, mother of our protagonist, Thoru, very quickly in a field of red lilies and that usually means death, which sadly represents her well because the series begins with her deceased. At the end we see Yuki, bearer of the Rat, with a white rose between his hands showing his purity and feelings going in contrast to Akito who is seen with a flower (I don't know which one it is) and his hand stained in blood, being totally his opposite. At the end we see Tohru in a field of sunflowers with a smile extending his hand, now don't you notice something similar here? Yes, the images of Tohru and Kyo are connected. We see Kyo trapped in bamboo with his hand outstretched to the sunlight, Tohru is seen among sunflowers which are flowers that are characterized by their relationship with the sun and with her hand outstretched, looking to save and help Kyo with the final phrase of the song "It's never too late", totally fitting if you ask me.
Más adelante vemos muy rápidamente a Kyoko, madre de nuestra protagonista, Thoru, en un campo de lirios rojos y eso suele significar muerte, lo cual tristemente le representa bien porque la serie inicia estando ella fallecida. Al final vemos a Yuki, portador de la Rata, con una rosa blanca entre sus manos mostrando su pureza y sentimientos yendo en contraste a Akito que se le ve con una flor (desconozco cuál es) y la mano manchada en sangre, siendo totalmente su opuesto. Al final vemos a Tohru en campo de girasoles con una sonrisa extiendo su mano, ahora ¿no notan algo parecido acá? Si, las imágenes de Tohru y Kyo están conectadas. Vemos a Kyo atrapado en bambú con la mano extendida a la luz solar, Tohru es vista entre girasoles las cuales son flores que se caracterizan por su relación con el sol y con su mano extendida, buscando salvar y ayudar a Kyo con la frase final de la canción “It´s never too late” (Nunca es demasiado tarde), totalmente acorde si me lo preguntan.
3) En En no Shouboutai - Ending 1
En no Shouboutai or Fire Force as it is also known, is an interesting shonen, with a very particular art that particularly fascinated me, the camera changes, the use of silhouettes and colors, everything is spectacular in the visual field and the endings in its first season are not far behind (but I criticize a lot those of the second season). This ending focuses on the past of Iris, the priestess of group eight of the Fire Force, we see her from the beginning in the ruins of the convent, with her hugging her legs and crying, then images of her different companions in the convent laughing, joking, praying, receiving punishments, eating, etc. appear, that is to say, of events prior to what happened at the beginning. Then we see Iris in the present, taking her usual baths, keeping the memory of that horrible day when the whole convent went up in flames and almost all her friends and nuns died from human combustion. Iris being just a child ran away from that place, looking for a safe place to be, spending years and years in solitude but the memory ends by focusing on all her companions showing that now she was not alone and that her life is in helping others and in solving that serious problem so no one else like her has to live that stormy experience.
The animation is sublime, the use of the color palette, shadows, the way of handling scene changes are excellent. I was fascinated by the way they used the silhouettes of the burning convent companions, those lost looks made with just a white dot seeing her, leaving the crosses on their necks intact, reaching out their hands to reach for her and take her to them. It's a shocking scene and the animators managed to clearly leave the feeling of desperation and fear in her. Curious note: The scene I mentioned before was censored since episode 3 or 4, they left the girls' heads as shadows and only left the bodies, I guess it was very shocking. The song "veil" by Keina Suda, is excellent and easy to listen to.
En En no Shouboutai o Fire Force como también le conocen, es un shonen interesante, con un arte bastante particular que particularmente me fascinó, los cambios de cámara, el uso de siluetas y colores, todo es espectacular en el campo visual y los ending en su primera temporada no se quedan atrás (pero critico mucho los de la segunda). Este ending se enfoca en el pasado de Iris, la sacerdotisa del grupo ocho de los Fire Force, se ve desde el inicio las ruinas del convento donde solía estar, con ella abrazando sus piernas y llorando, luego aparecen imágenes de sus diferentes compañeras en el convento riendo, bromeando, orando, recibiendo castigos, comiendo, etc es decir, de eventos previos a lo sucedido al inicio. Vemos a Iris en el presente, tomando sus usuales baños manteniendo el recuerdo de aquel horrible día cuando todo el convento ardió en llamas y casi todas sus amigas y monjas murieron por combustión humana. Iris siendo solo una niña corrió huyendo de ese lugar, buscando un sitio seguro donde estar, pasando años y años en soledad pero el recuerdo termina al enfocar a todos sus compañeros mostrando que ahora no estaba sola y que su vida está en ayudar a otros y en resolver ese grave problema y así nadie más como ella tenga que vivir esa tormentosa experiencia.
La animación en sublime, el uso de la paleta de colores, sombras, la forma de manejar los cambios de escena son excelentes. A mí me fascinó como usaron las siluetas de las compañeras del convento quemándose, esas miradas perdidas hechas con solo un punto blanco viéndola, dejando las cruces en sus cuellos intactos, extendiendo sus manos para alcanzarla y llevarla hasta ellas. Es una escena impactante y los animadores lograron dejar claramente la sensación de desesperación y miedo en ella. Nota curiosa: La escena que mencioné antes fue censurada desde el episodio 3 o 4, dejaron como sombras las cabezas de las chicas y solo dejaron los cuerpos, supongo fue muy impactante. La canción “veil” de Keina Suda, es excelente y se deja escuchar con mucha facilidad.
4) Fate/Zero - Ending 1
Yes, I know, I'm back with my Fate-Intensity, and I'm not going to apologize because I admit I'm in love with the franchise but I couldn't avoid mentioning its ending as well. This first ending seems to me a very creative idea from ufotable to show the Servants of the series, I'll explain why I think so.
At the beginning of the ending they show us the statuettes with the shapes that represent each Servant Class: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Assassin, Caster and Berserker. Then they show us objects and silhouettes that represent the catalysts with which those Servants were summoned, and explaining briefly, the Servants are the manifestation of Heroic Spirits which are characters of our history, myths and legends that have left a mark in the history of humanity, the Servants are summoned by mages to fight in a Holy Grail War and they enter in a category or Class that is compatible to how they were in life or in their stories. The catalysts shown are in the same order as the Servants will later be shown. The images of the Servants they show are not from some point in the series but from their pasts. The first one is Rider, whose real identity is Iskandar or as Alexander the Great is also known. Then we have Archer, who is actually the Sumerian king Gilgamesh. We are shown Lancer, a famous knight from Celtic mythology Diarmuid ua Duibhne. Caster, the infamous Gilles de Rais or also known as Bluebeard. Assassin, one of the Hassans. In the Berserker class we have the knight of the round table, Lancelot seeing the famous lake in the story and finally we have Saber, King Arthur aka Arturia Pendragon in Fate.
Si, lo sé, he vuelto con mi Fate-Intensidad, y no me voy a disculpar porque admito que estoy enamorado de la franquicia pero no podía evitar hacer mención de su ending también. Este primer Ending me parece una idea muy creativa de ufotable para mostrar a los Servants de la serie, les explico por qué lo pienso.
Al inicio del ending nos muestran las estatuillas con las formas que representan a cada Clase de los Servant: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Assassin, Caster y Berserker. Luego nos muestran objetos y siluetas que representan a los catalizadores con los que fueron invocados esos Servant, y explicando brevemente, los Servants son la manifestación de Espíritus Heroicos los cuales son personajes de nuestra historia, mitos y leyendas que han dejado una marca en la historia de la humanidad, los Servants son invocados por magos para combatir en una Holy Grail War y entran en una categoría o Clase que sea compatible a cómo eran ellos en vida o en sus historias. Los catalizadores mostrados están en el mismo orden en como luego mostrarán a los Servants. Las imágenes de los Servants que muestran no son de algún momento en la serie sino de sus pasados. El primero es Rider, cuya verdadera identidad es Iskandar o como también es conocido Alejandro Magno. Luego tenemos Archer, que en realidad es el rey sumerio Gilgamesh. Nos muestran a Lancer, un famoso caballero de la mitología celta Diarmuid ua Duibhne. Caster, el infame Gilles de Rais o también conocido como barba azul. A Assassin, a uno de los Hassan. En la clase Berserker tenemos a al caballero de la mesa redonda, Lancelot viendo el famoso lago de la historia y finalmente tenemos a Saber, el Rey Arturo conocida como Arturia Pendragon en Fate.
Now, you may wonder what's so special about this? It's just images of characters. Well yes, but not just any set of images, ufotable has redesigned old images and sculptures of their real life counterparts to make the ending. I found this simple fact amazing, an excellent move by ufotable to create an engagement and bond with them. The song is called "MEMORIA" and is by the well known Eir Aoi. I leave you a video where you can see what I am talking about.
Ahora, se preguntaran ¿qué tiene de especial esto? Es solo imágenes de personajes. Pues sí, pero no cualquier conjunto de imágenes, ufotable ha rediseñado imágenes y esculturas antiguas de sus contrapartes en la vida real para hacer el ending. Este simple hecho me pareció increíble, una excelente jugada por parte de ufotable para crear un compromiso y vínculo con ellos. La canción se llama “MEMORIA” y es de la muy conocida Eir Aoi. Les dejo un video donde se ve lo que les estoy hablando.
5) OVERLORD III - Ending
With four seasons already having a similar style I think we can say that it is already a habit of the studio to try to have static images in their endings but the style is excellent because it uses totally the art that is appreciated in the light novels. I don't know if it's made by their illustrator but I think it's a fantastic touch because it adds that dark and dense touch that their main characters are supposed to show, those humanoid creatures that can cause destruction and massacre if Ainz orders them to.
The initial image of Ainz is extremely dark, he looks dangerous and the sparks seem to suggest fire. Then we see images of all the secondary characters that have relevance in this third season, the stroke and shading of them is sublime even though they are only human. When the chorus begins we are shown a dark drop that quickly becomes a tree of darkness and then in that same darkness we are shown the main characters, all the Floor Bosses of Nazarick, it is a very particular way of telling us that those who look like the villains are actually the center of everything. At the end we see Ainz extending his arm to the sky, with blood dripping down his bones until it lands on his skull.
It is a very somber ending visually but it is well accompanied by the song which I must say is fascinating to me and I give it five stars, the band OxT has done a great job making this ending called "Silent Solitude" (although they have done the theme music for Opening 1, 2 and 4).
Con ya cuatro temporadas teniendo un estilo parecido creo que podemos decir que es ya una costumbre por parte del estudio el procurar que sus ending tengan imágenes estáticas pero el estilo es excelente ya que usa totalmente el arte que se aprecia en las novelas ligeras. Desconozco si es hecho por su ilustrador pero me parece un toque fantástico porque añade ese toque oscuro y denso que se supone deben mostrar sus personajes principales, aquellas criaturas humanoides que pueden causas destrucción y masacre si Ainz se los ordena.
La imagen inicial de Ainz es sumamente oscura, se le ve peligroso y las chispas parecieran sugerir fuego. Luego se ven son imágenes de todos los personajes secundarios que tienen relevancia en esta tercera temporada, el trazo y sombreado de ellos es sublime a pesar que son solo humanos. Cuando inicia el coro nos muestran una gota oscura que rápidamente se convierte en una árbol de oscuridad para luego en esa misma oscuridad nos muestran a los personajes principales, a todos los Jefes de Piso de Nazarick, es una manera muy particular de decirnos que aquellos que se ven como los villanos son en realidad el centro de todo. Al final vemos a Ainz extendiendo su brazo al cielo, con sangre regándose por sus huesos hasta caer en su cráneo.
Es un ending muy sombrío visualmente pero está bien acompañado por la canción que debo decir es me fascina y le doy cinco estrellas, la banda OxT ha hecho un gran trabajo realizando este ending llamado “Silent Solitude” (aunque ellos han hecho el tema musical del Opening 1, 2 y 4).
BONUS: Roruini Kenshin - Ending 4 and 5
Ok, I know the post says that there are only 5 Endings but I came across the memory of this anime gem and when I was reviewing the seven endings I said to myself "I MUST POST AN ENDING" and as much as I reviewed I couldn't decide for just one so I put the two I like the most. They are simply fantastic, even though one characteristic that all the endings share is the use of not only images but also clips of the episodes, they do it in a harmonious way and at the same time with a good conjugation of original images for the endings.
The ending 4 has a very emotional connotation, not only for the part of the fights but also for the characters, reflecting in the clips the sentimental interests, closing with Kenshin's farewell with Kaoru.
The ending 5 is very different from the previous one in terms of dynamics. It shows scenes painted in a different style than the rest of the usual scenery, to the point of even looking like less defined versions of real life along with the characters, something quite innovative for the time and which also looked perfect. The characters shown are all those actively involved in that story arc.
As an extra note, the endings 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Roruini Kenshin last almost 2:30 min, 1 min longer than what usually last the vast majority of anime, it is something that stands out enormously and also the quality of the themes was impressive.
Ok, sé que el post dice que son solo 5 Endings pero me topé con el recuerdo de esta joya de anime y cuando revisaba los siete endings que tuvo me dije “DEBO PONER UN ENDING” y por más que revisé no me pude decidir por uno solo así que coloqué los dos que más me gustan. Simplemente son fantásticos, a pesar que una característica que comparten todos los endings es el uso de no solo imágenes sino también clips de los episodios, lo hacen de una manera armoniosa y a la vez con una buena conjugación de imágenes originales para los endings.
El ending 4 tiene una connotación bastante emocional, no solo por la parte de los combates sino en los personajes reflejando en los clips los intereses sentimentales cerrando con la despedida de Kenshin con Kaoru.
El ending 5 es muy diferente al anterior en cuanto a dinámica. Muestra escenas pintadas en un estilo distinto al resto de la escenografía habitual, hasta incluso parecer versiones menos definidas de la vida real junto con los personajes, algo bastante innovador para la época y que además quedaba perfecto. Los personajes que muestran son todos los involucrados de manera activa en ese arco de la historia.
Como nota extra, los endings 4, 5, 6 y 7 de Roruini Kenshin duran casi 2:30 min, 1 min más de lo que usualmente duran la gran mayoría de los anime, es algo que destaca enormemente y además la calidad de los temas era impresionante.
Well, that's it for now, I know I've gone on and on but I wanted to give justice to all this content. The endings are definitely different from the Openings but they have a unique impact with memorable themes and symbolism. As I was writing this I remembered many other endings that are also excellent and I'm considering doing a part 2.

Bueno, por ahora es todo, sé que me he extendido pero quise darle justicia a todo este contenido. Los ending definitivamente son diferentes a los Openings pero tienen un impacto único con temas y simbolismos memorables. Al momento de escribir esto recordé muchos otros ending que también son excelentes y ando considerando hacer una parte 2.

Confieso que aunque soy fan del anime, solo he visto dos de los que mencionas. Pero he de decir que, en efecto, son muy buenos endings. Espero la parte dos, a ver si he visto algún otro anime de los que menciones jaja.
