A brush with musical greatness

I am recording a podcast every day this month for the #NaPodPoMo challenge started by @epodcaster.

At our pub music session last night I got to meet Rodney Slater who was a founder member of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. He played saxophone with them from the early 1960s until fairly recently. I knew he lived locally and was a friend of someone I know.

I am not going to post my own picture of him without his permission, but here he is with the band back in the day (from Wikipedia).

I really do enjoy these sessions and have a great crowd of people to play with. My band have a few things on in the next week. We are playing for people to dance to on Sunday and then we are playing with our pianist's choirs. I really ought to practice.

wow thats pretty cool! @sazzler has been learning the saxophone this year, its such a great instrument. Perhaps i'll post some up at some point

My sax/clarinet playing friend couldn't be there last night.. Those things are loud. Anyway, you can't sing whilst playing one. Hope @sazzler enjoys it.

What a fun experience! He probably enjoys hanging out fellow musicians and playing what he can for the love of music. I think when you love something it doesn't matter how old you are you just want to be around it.

We get all ages at these sessions and the songs can be from any time. It's all about the music.

Your pub sounds very cool! I haven't seen the inside of a pub for months, so am rather envious...

We started going back a while ago. Did some outdoor sessions, but it's too cold for that now.
