This is one of those species that I feel the luckiest to find and photograph because they appear rarely and, if they return, they do so after a long time.

According to the information in the Lens application, it is probably Temenis laothoe. There are only 3 species in this genus, and it is still under discussion whether more should be included.
De acuerdo a la información de la aplicación Lens es probable que se trate de Temenis laothoe. Existen solo 3 especies en este género, y todavía está en discusión si deben incluirse otras más.
It is a small butterfly of the family Nymphalidae ("brush-footed" butterflies), subfamily Biblidinae ("Tropical Brush-footed"), tribe Epiphelini, genus Temenis, species Laothoe (Orange Flag).
Es una mariposa pequeña de la familia Nymphalidae (mariposas "pata de cepillo"), subfamilia Biblidinae ("Patas de cepillo tropicales"), tribu Epiphelini, género Temenis, especie Laothoe (Bandera naranjas).
It has a wingspan of about 4 centimeters, mustard yellow with a brown-orange band on the ventral side of the hind and fore wings. The dorsal aspect of both wings is darker, between mustard yellow and orange with brown lines and two dark brown bands at the apex of the forewings.
The back of the body is the same color as the dorsal side of the wings, while the ventral part and legs are white. The antennae alternate white with black and end in yellow tips.
Like other species of the genus, they live from southern Texas (as lost) to Argentina.
Tiene unos 4 centímetros de envergadura, color amarillo mostaza con banda marrón-naranja en la cara ventral de las alas traseras y delanteras. La cara dorsal de ambas alas es más oscura, entre amarillo mostaza y naranja con líneas marrones y dos bandas marrón oscuro en el ápice de las alas delanteras.
El dorso del cuerpo es del mismo color que la cara dorsal de las alas, mientras que la parte ventral, y patas son blancos. Las antenas alternan blanco con negro y terminan en puntas amarillas.
Al igual que otras especies del género, viven desde el sur de Texas (como extraviados), hasta Argentina.
The larvae feed mainly on plants of the sapindaceae family and mimic bird droppings, the adults feed on rotting fruit.
Sapindaceae contain compounds that during digestion pass to butterflies in their larval stage and make them toxic. This may be related to the fact that they have not developed the ability to blend into the environment, which would make them more vulnerable.
