Is it important that the dragonfly is in your territory?

Welcoming in my blog...

It's nice today, Tuesday, March 1, 2022, to see it again in the location behind our house or we say it as Lampôh Soeuh (vacant land overgrown with wild weeds), previously a few months ago that location, many were overgrown with various wild plants, that on purpose by our family, so that every habitat is within that area, but 3 weeks ago, our family did a cleanup when I wasn't in my city (doing work out of town), or routine work schedule for once a year, and anyway in this month I'm often busy at work, so I don't have time to write and meet friend's here.

(Orthetrum sabina or Dragonfly Rhino)

When our brother did a clean-up in the area, by burning every wild weed and some of the medium trees that dominated the area itself. So every habitat that is a location (wild habitat research arena), has been lost, either they die or move to another location.

The point is that every wild habitat, especially flying insects, disappears instantly with the cleaning. Basically I'm not happy with my brother's workers, because the impact of that work makes wild habitats disappear instantly.

But what should I say, that situation has occurred, with the hope of waiting a few more months, to see the weeds grow back normally and in no time every insect species will return to normal.

It turned out that what was hoped for had happened, meaning that the growth of wild weeds had begun to appear or they would come back again, even though the location was still bare, in fact there were still small tree trunks growing, still standing tall in its original location, and still one of my favorite flying insect species. The dragonfly is green, experts call it Orthetrum Sabina or the Rhinoceros Dragonfly. They came back even though they looked very frightened by my presence, this seemed very difficult to approach, maybe their experience at that time.

Their panic because of the period they had been through made it very difficult for me to take pictures, as I couldn't approach them within 1 meter. So to get photos from different angles is very difficult. Finally just got a few photos with slight differences that resemble.

As previously stated, I personally really like this one insect species. Most likely you will also think the same about it, Why? Let's follow some of the explanations below.

Number one Dragonflies have a great body pattern

Although its body is relatively small when viewed by the human eye, it is considered large when compared to other insect species that dominate wild habitats. The dragonfly's body itself has a beautiful and enchanting motif if it is considered an animal that likes to fly, has various colors and patterns and different motifs on each Odonata, so that technology experts adopt its shape as a simple and amazing aerial vehicle, namely a helicopter. Children themselves also often like the shape of his body so often catch him to play, even after being released again.

A perfect desain if you pay attention, the wings are very slender with the curves of his body, have a balance in flight so that he is able to fly very long distances, plus his high speed of behavior and agility in maneuver is able to hunt every favorite prey in his territory.

The head, thorax, tail, and wings are a perfect formation for an insect who likes to fly far away, the wings are constantly rotating with good bone construction, the tail as a relevant rudder for a very amazing turn. The point is I am very interested in seeing the state of his body.

Number two Its presence is very beneficial in the human environment

Basically everything that has been created by the creator of course has a specific purpose and purpose, although every character that has been created has some drawbacks, but among these shortcomings there are certain advantages, we just want to know and investigate, so when you see the shortcomings in each object, it will show certain advantages it has.

Basically everything that has been created by the creator of course has a specific purpose and purpose in this life, although every character that has been created has some drawbacks, but among these shortcomings there are certain advantages. It will be seen, if you go deeper into the character of each one of them, when you investigate each one of them, then you will see how amazing they are in every move and so on.

Likewise with the dragonfly, it also has a myriad of advantages even though among the advantages there are disadvantages. Interestingly, the presence of dragonflies in each distribution area has something unique and great.

Among the many advantages that exist in the dragonfly character, then I see several things, among others.

a. Become a bio indicator reference

As in a previous discussion and it is also often discussed by researchers working in the field, that the presence of this great predator becomes a reference for detecting a good condition of water sources in one's environment.

Instinctively, every parent dragonfly will continue to monitor and look for good water sources, which are free from bad things that can pollute the environment in the form of bad things that come from the impact of factory waste and several other sources that come from nature, which then has an impact on the environment, on the health of the aquatic environment. This is often expressed as water pollution, which makes the water in the area not good for environmental sustainability.

So don't be surprised if you see the mother dragonfly carrying out general operations, namely flying here and there or sometimes flying far past every puddle, meaning they are looking for something that has water capacity in healthy and pollution-free soil.

So, if you see a nest in the water then know that the water in that location is very healthy, free from bad things.

So based on that, it is said that the dragonfly becomes one of the references as bio-indicators in the environment itself.

b. Dragonflies are categorized as controllers, mosquito larvae

If the fighting fish are able to eat thousands of mosquito larvae in the water, whether it's dirty water or not, but dragonflies are also able to control it, don't humans hate mosquitoes too? Naturally...

If your area has a large population of mosquitoes, then expect dragonflies to be present, why?

Because the mosquito larvae themselves are the main food source for dragonfly nymphs.

When the mother dragonfly wants to lay eggs, it will look for clean water locations (as explained above).

The eggs will be placed in the water he chooses, then within a certain time, the eggs will hatch and will become dragonfly nymphs.

Now,

These nymphs will later eat every available larva in the water where the location of the nest is determined by the mother.

Each nymph that has been born is able to eat hundreds of mosquito larvae as the forerunner of mosquitoes. Thus, the cleaner the water in your area, the more dragonflies will dominate the area, so naturally the more mosquito larvae consumed by the dragonfly nymphs.

In the end, it is humans who benefit. So it is very important to invite their presence in each of your areas of course in a certain way, in addition to natural events as described above.

Then how will it go? Keep following me on hive.blog, of course you will find out things that may not be known. That's it for today's meeting. Hope it is useful.

Hello @soehada. A very interesting publication, with good information, dragonflies are important. Dragonflies are of great ecological importance, because they reflect changes in the health of aquatic ecosystems, also to control the population of mosquitoes, killing 100 in a single day. Thanks for sharing with the community.
