Abuse is a Shoot'em up platform game, which was developed by Crack dot com, to be distributed by Electronic Arts (EA) throughout North America, and distributed in Europe by Origin Systems.
The game was released on 29 February 1996 for the MS-DOS system. It also had a version for MAC Os, which was released by Bungie on 5 March 1997. Because its source code has been available to the public since 1990, it has been ported to Linux and other platforms such as the commodore Amiga.
In this game we play special agent Nick Vrenna, who was justly incarcerated in a maximum security prison where inhumane experiments are conducted on prisons with an experimental substance called ABUSE. Our goal is to escape alive and eliminate the monsters that inhabit the prison.
a) The first thing to appreciate is the minimalist and intuitive style of Abuse's menu, which will make things very easy for you to operate the game. Use the traffic light to start a new game.
b) If you feel uncomfortable or a bit disoriented with the game's control system, then press the F1 key during the game and you will be presented with a well-written instruction manual by the game developers for the correct use of the controls.
c) As you start your journey, you will find that you will be provided with a very good tutorial on the game mechanics, all this while you are taking your first steps. The game is very fast paced, so I recommend that you take it one step at a time to familiarise yourself with the controls.
Note: The sound quality of this videogame is truly amazing.
d) Watch out for the recording booths along the way. You will need to press the down arrow to activate any action function in the game, such as using lifts, opening doors, including the recording booth, which also serves as a checkpoint.
e) Ammunition: Attention on the ground, ammunition in this video game is very important, as due to the phenomenatic pace of action of the monsters, it will cause you to expend ammunition very quickly. So be sure to pick up all the ammo you can find.
f) It is also important to mention the fact that we can use a good variety of weapons, which we can select by right-clicking on the desired weapon icon in our weapon hud.
g) We have special skills! Yes, my friend, as you have read, we will be able to use special abilities, such as super-speed.These abilities will be available for a limited time, and will be obtained by using microchips like the one shown in the picture above. To activate your powers, hold down the right-click button.
h) Be smart. Use the various objects such as weapon switches, doors, etc., to get the upper hand on your enemies. For example, in the final part of stage 2 and detailed in the image above, I recommend running straight through to the interrupter and avoiding the aliens coming after you by taking them out with the automatic turrets. Then press the switch again to deactivate the turrets and collect the ammo loot.
